At PPRO, we simplify access to local payments - providing a local payments platform that empowers giants like PayPal, Stripe, and Microsoft to connect with billions of consumers worldwide. We are on an ambitious, fast-paced mission to 3x our growth by 2028 - and we’re just getting started.
Our magic lies in our team of proud payments nerds. Spanning over 50 nationalities across 10+ global locations, our diverse cultures aren't a checklist; they are the competitive advantage driving our innovation. This is a people-first, high trust environment where you’ll have the autonomy to make a massive impact, own your work end-to-end, and grow through broad exposure, meaningful challenges, and continuous learning. We get things done, challenge respectfully, put the customer first, and recognise that our biggest successes are those we create as a team. If you’re ready to leave your footprint on global commerce, join us.

The Purpose:

The Boarding domain builds and maintains the platform that onboards merchants onto PPRO's network of the products and services that get our customers live, fast, compliant, and reliable. At the center of it all is the merchant: every system we build, every API we ship, connects internal teams and external clients around getting merchants onboarded smoothly. As a Software Engineer, you own live, public-facing APIs built to handle real scale, take on well-defined but moderately complex problems, work largely independently within the team, and own your piece of the boarding pipeline end-to-end.

What you'll be doing:

  • Build, test, and operate services within the Boarding platform, following the "you build it, you run it" mindset

  • Work largely independently on team-scoped tasks, seeking guidance from senior teammates and your manager on ambiguous or cross-team topics

  • Adapt quickly when priorities shift, re-plan your own work, communicate impact, and keep delivery moving without needing to be told twice

  • Take ownership of your commitments: proactively surface risks/blockers, follow through to completion, and hold yourself accountable for outcomes, not just output

  • Write testable, decoupled, readable code; write tests across the pyramid (unit → integration); use our observability stack to understand and improve the services you own

  • Participate in incident response for your team's services, using runbooks and systematic debugging; contribute to blameless postmortems

  • Collaborate closely with peers, other Boarding squads, and stakeholder teams (Compliance, Product, Risk); share knowledge and give/receive feedback openly

  • Bring energy and curiosity to the team, someone others enjoy pairing with and are inspired by

What you'll need to bring:

  • Self-driven and with a high sense of ownership/drive - you take a well-defined task and run with it

  • Comfortable with changing priorities; you re-prioritise your own work without losing momentum or morale

  • Strong sense of ownership - you follow through, and you don't wait to be asked twice

  • An engaging, inspiring presence in the team - someone who lifts the energy of the room

  • 3–5 years of hands-on software engineering experience, ideally with some payments/fintech exposure

Technical requirements:

  • Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs

  • Event-driven microservice architecture (SQS/SNS/Kinesis or similar)

  • AWS cloud fundamentals (EKS, DynamoDB, or equivalent managed services)

  • Testing across the pyramid; comfortable with TDD

  • Observability tooling (Datadog or equivalent) - can read dashboards/alerts and act on them

  • Nice to have: Terraform/IaC exposure, payments or KYC/compliance domain background, hands-on use of AI tools in the SDLC

What We Do

PPRO is a fintech company that provides digital payments infrastructure to businesses and banks so that they can scale their checkout, acquiring, and risk services through one connection. Payment platforms, acquirers, and merchants that plug into PPRO’s infrastructure are able to access payment methods, fraud screening tools, and other essential products from multiple providers. Every product can be deployed and controlled with clicks, not code. And with the company's orchestration layer directing process flows and data like clockwork, PPRO’s partners can rest easy knowing they’re delivering seamless end-to-end services to their customers. Citi, PayPal, and Stripe are just some of the names that depend on PPRO to accelerate their roadmaps, boost their conversions, and eliminate the complexities of digital payments.
