Valmet is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support and enhance our legacy Distributed Control System (DCS) software solutions. In this role, you will combine technical expertise, customer engagement, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of our mission-critical industrial automation systems across a diverse customer base.

Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain expertise in company legacy products, tools, procedures, and industry technologies.
- Maintain, enhance, and modify software systems to improve reliability, security, usability, and overall performance.
- Design and execute test plans, validate software functionality, and support software and hardware integration activities.
- Support software release activities which include patch deployment, version control, and adherence to established change management processes.
- Provide advanced technical support for deployed automation and control system software, ensuring timely resolution of customer issues.
- Analyze customer data, including drawings, specifications, manuals, and system logs, to identify requirements and troubleshoot production issues.
- Manage customer communications and coordinate with field service engineers to drive issues through resolution.
- Develop and maintain support tools, scripts, and processes to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
- Conduct root cause analysis and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that reduce recurring issues and improve product quality.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge base articles, FAQs, and project records
- Maintain development and test environments while ensuring compliance with documentation and project requirements.
Qualifications-
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in software support, maintenance, or industrial automation environments.
- Strong proficiency in development and maintaining C++ applications for Microsoft Windows systems using Visual Studio.
- Experience with Git source control and software lifecycle management practices.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to interpret logs, performance metrics, and error reports.
- Experience supporting Windows-based applications, including system-level troubleshooting and legacy Microsoft frameworks and libraries.
- Proven ability to manage multiple support cases and technical projects simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
Preferred:
- Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), industrial automation systems, or alarm management solutions.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols and technologies, including OPC DA, OPC UA, DCOM, and UDP.
- Experience supporting mission-critical or real-time industrial applications.
- Familiarity with software testing, validation, and release management processes.
