Thomson Reuters is looking for a Software Engineer with an appetite to learn AI-code generation skills within our Editorial Tools & Services team.

 

In this role, you will play an essential role in designing and deploying software applications AI-first, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that meet customer needs. Your primary focus will be on core development tasks, demonstrating a good handle on programming languages and the use of various development tools with a focus on AI-generative development tools. You will develop the ability to integrate and consume APIs, gain experience with infrastructure-as-code tools, containerization basics, CI/CD pipelines, and AI concepts and their applications. 
 

Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication skills are crucial for success. You will be encouraged to innovate and solve complex problems, enhancing your deep technical abilities in software development programming within an agile environment in a collaborative learning culture. 

About You 

In this opportunity as a Software Engineer, you will have: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. 

  • 2–4 years of professional software development experience. 

  • Hands-on experience with C#/.NET Core/NodeJS/Python and cloud-based development, preferably AWS. 

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments. 

  • Strong interest in using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT, or similar to support coding, testing, refactoring, debugging, and documentation. 

  • Ability to critically review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, maintainability, security, and performance. 

  • Familiarity with CI/CD, Git, code reviews, debugging, logging, and production support. 

  • Some design skills including knowledge of common design patterns 

  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize work effectively 

  • Customer-first approach to software development 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (ability to communicate effectively with technical staff, Business Analysts, management, and business team members). 

 

About The Role:

As a Software Engineer, you will: 

  • Communicate with product and business teams to gather and analyze the business requirement and translate it into technical design and prepare functional/technical specification documents. 

  • Research and identify new software technologies that can be leveraged to improve application performance and development efficiency, reducing cost and maintaining quality, working closely with development leads. 

  • Provide creative and elegant solutions to complex problems. 

  • Prepare technical specifications and documentation. 

  • Participate in internal team and status meetings, in project planning sessions with team members to analyze development requirements, provide design options, and provide work breakdown and estimates of work. 

  • Participate in software releases. 

  • Work together with the your team and other teams to deliver high-grade, performant, well-documented and resilient features. 

  • Work together with the Quality Assurance team to prepare test plans/test cases and define test execution methodology and perform tests. Identify and fix any defects. 

  • Work together with the system operation team to ensure system stability and maintain high availability

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. For Ontario, Canada, the base compensation range for this role is $82,100 CAD - $132,100 CAD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
