Software Engineer - Thorin

Thorin is an AI startup born out of 8VC’s "Build", focused on solving AI-human coordination by analyzing organizational email to map and automate recurring business workflows. With backing and product vision from Joe Lonsdale, Thorin is 8VC’s latest incubation, following the success of Affinity, Addepar, and other unicorns.

We’re looking for a Software Engineer to build the foundation of Thorin’s user-facing product. This role is ideal for full-stack generalists who love to ship, own features end-to-end, and bring product ideas to life with speed and polish.

You’ll work across the stack: building our AI agents, delightful user-experiences, and knowledge management system. This role is high-ownership and high-agency.

• Design and implement core features in our email-native AI workflow platform.

• Work with founders and senior engineers to rapidly prototype, iterate, and scale.

• Help shape product direction and technical decisions from the ground up.

• Contribute to a culture where speed, innovation, and meritocracy guide how we build.

• Proficient with TypeScript and excited to build production systems in it.

• You’ve been experimenting with LLMs (side projects, research, or production work) and stay up-to-date with the latest in AI.

• You thrive in a fast-moving, startup environment, where velocity and impact matter more than process.

• Hungry to learn, curious, and eager to build real product with real users.

• Based in (or willing to relocate to) San Francisco — this role is in-office.

• Work directly with Joe Lonsdale (co-founder of Palantir, Addepar, OpenGov, and 8VC) and Asanka Jayasuriya (CTO/Partner at 8VC; ex-Amazon, Atlassian, SailPoint).

• Learn alongside highly experienced engineers (ex-Palantir, Google) while taking on significant ownership from day one.

• Master frontier AI models: move beyond demos to build enterprise-grade products engineered for security, performance, and business impact.
