Why Sony Interactive Entertainment?

Sony Interactive Entertainment isn’t just the Best Place to Play — it’s also the Best Place to Work. Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is the company behind the PlayStation brand. As a subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation, we’re part of a proud legacy of innovation and excellence. SIE is a dynamic technology company, delivering cutting-edge hardware and network services to more than 100 million people and an entertainment leader, home to some of the most beloved and recognizable intellectual properties (IP) in the world. Our role at SIE is to create and nurture the experiences under the PlayStation brand, a name synonymous with entertainment excellence and creativity.

Join the team responsible for developing the tests, tools, automation, and infrastructure that help ensure the quality of the software toolchain used to build every PlayStation®5 game.
You’ll collaborate closely with the ToolChain development teams to design tests and testing systems for new features as they are developed. You’ll also help design and implement internal tools, automation, diagnostics, and workflows that improve confidence in the quality, reliability, and maintainability of the product.
This role sits within Quality Engineering. That means our work goes beyond running tests or finding bugs. We build software that helps teams understand risk, improve feedback loops, diagnose issues faster, and build quality into the development process as early as possible.
Our toolchain is based on a private fork of the open-source LLVM project, continuously updated through an automated merge system. Thanks to our advanced continuous testing, we have a strong track record of identifying and reporting new bugs in the open-source project very quickly.
This role offers a great opportunity to build a career in Software Engineering in Test and Quality Engineering, working on industry-leading development tools. You’ll receive mentorship from experts in the field and have opportunities for continuous learning.
What you’ll be doing

  • Collaborating with development teams to design and implement tests, tooling, and test systems for new ToolChain features, helping build quality into the development process from the start.
  • Designing and developing internal tools that improve test execution, diagnostics, reporting, workflow efficiency, or developer feedback.
  • Contributing to testing tools and frameworks, improving how we validate the ToolChain and how quickly teams can understand quality risks.
  • Maintaining and improving test jobs on our Jenkins CI system, ensuring reliable execution, useful feedback, and opportunities to improve test performance.
  • Writing Python-based automation and scripts to support testing, analysis, reporting, environment setup, diagnostics, or workflow improvements.
  • Analysing automated test results to identify failures, patterns, trends, and areas where our testing, tooling, or infrastructure could be improved.
  • Investigating issues across test, build, tooling, and execution environments, helping determine whether failures relate to product changes, test issues, infrastructure problems, or environmental factors.
  • Supporting improvements to testability and diagnostics, making it easier for teams to understand failures and act on quality signals.
  • Participating in code and documentation reviews, offering feedback to improve test coverage, code quality, maintainability, clarity, and overall development workflows.
  • Learning and applying Quality Engineering practices, including risk-based thinking, automation design, test effectiveness, tooling quality, and continuous improvement.

What we are looking for

  • A BSc in a relevant technical or scientific field such as Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating appropriate technical skills.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, with the ability to design, implement, debug, and maintain code used for testing, tooling, automation, or infrastructure.
  • Understanding of software testing techniques, whether gained through academic coursework, personal projects, internships, or professional experience.
  • Interest in Quality Engineering, including how testing, automation, tooling, diagnostics, and good engineering practices help teams deliver better software.
  • Ability to write and maintain unit and system tests for software applications, ensuring quality and reliability. Experience developing testing frameworks is a plus for more experienced candidates.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, such as Python, to automate test cases, workflows, analysis, diagnostics, or reporting.
  • Ability to build practical tools or automation, from small scripts that remove repeated effort through to more structured internal tooling used by the team.
  • An analytical approach to problem-solving, with the ability to investigate failures, understand patterns, and ask good questions when the cause of an issue is unclear.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information in writing and verbally to team members with varying levels of expertise.
  • Collaborative mindset, capable of building strong working relationships and working effectively across teams, regardless of experience level or reporting line.
  • A learning mindset, with enthusiasm for developing technical skills, testing knowledge, tooling capability, and quality engineering judgement over time.

Nice to have

  • Experience in triaging software bugs and collaborating with development teams. For more experienced candidates, experience handling complex or ambiguous bug reports is a plus.
  • Experience testing released software products, particularly developer tools, compilers, SDKs, or similar platforms. Experience with more complex testing environments is valued for experienced candidates.
  • Familiarity with advanced software testing techniques, such as coverage-directed fuzzing, property-based testing, static analysis, or using sanitizers. This knowledge can be acquired on the job, so candidates with a learning mindset are encouraged to apply.
  • Practical knowledge of a system-level language such as C++ and the ability to navigate, test, or contribute to large codebases, whether gained through coursework, projects, or professional experience.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems, especially Jenkins or similar platforms.
  • Experience developing internal engineering tools, test utilities, dashboards, reporting tools, workflow automation, or diagnostic helpers.
  • Experience improving test reliability, maintainability, or reporting, including reducing flaky tests, improving failure diagnostics, or making automated results easier to act upon.
