Software Engineer (Sustaining)

Brooks – Laboratory Automation Solutions, specialize in the design and manufacture of compact, innovative benchtop automation for optimizing pre- and post-analytical workflows in pathology and analytical laboratories, and has installations worldwide.
We are searching for our next Sustaining Engineer to join our Software Team as we accelerate our growth journey.
What you’ll do:
-
Develop application software for new and legacy products to interface with control systems and information systems, and perform self-diagnostics
-
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering team, product management, and customers to define new or improve on product features,
-
Develop and communicate software requirements and design changes to peers,
-
Maintain custom Linux distributions,
-
Identify, prioritize and execute tasks in the software development life cycle,
-
Ensure that designs are fit for purpose and meet cost, quality, compliance and schedule requirements,
-
Ensure reliable and high-quality software through development and automated testing best practices,
-
Support manufacturing and our Customer Solutions Group in investigating and troubleshooting field issues (remote or on-site).

Participate in team reviews on specifications on code, on documentation and on test-cases.
-
Work with management and senior leaders to keep projects on track.
What you’ll bring:
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronic or similar technical degree,
-
4+ year proven experience with software design and development for innovative solutions,
-
Experience programming in C++ for control systems (Windows and Linux),
-
Demonstrable experience with SQL, Python, JavaScript, or similar scripting language is beneficial,
-
Experience with Linux is desirable,
-
Experience with continuous integration (eg Jenkins) would be desirable,
-
Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices or UL 2900,
-
Experience with distributed control systems and unit/integration/system testing is a plus,
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
-
Excellent critical thinking, diagnosis and problem solving skills,
-
Demonstrable ability to work autonomously and consistently deliver results,

A strong team player.
