Job DescriptionWe need a Backend Engineer to join our mission and help us build a global platform that’s scalable, reliable and secure. We’re working on lots of exciting challenges, and you’ll dive right into projects helping consumers and businesses receive and send money from anywhere in the world.
About The Role
You will be responsible for building technical solutions with high regards to code quality, architecture applicability, performance, reliability and adherence to company-wide engineering standards.
How We Work
We work in an agile fashion, with engineers closely collaborating with data analysts and scientists, product manager. The technical team operates from our Tallinn office, while the PM operates from the London office.
Qualifications
We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. So if you have some of those listed below and are eager to learn more, we do want to hear from you!
- Experience working with Java, Spring framework, asynchronous message queues and have worked with microservices architecture – this is essential
- Comfortable working on big challenges and taking full ownership of the customer journey
- You have experience working with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation and designing schemas
- A passion for international finance, foreign exchange and payment systems
- You have a strong product mindset and passion for customer experience, you prioritise work with the customers in mind and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain-points
- You enjoy collaborating with others and bringing people together to solve a problem
- You have experience in designing, deploying and maintaining clean RESTful APIs
- You believe in and follow best coding practices, code reviews and open feedback
- You enjoy writing testable code and believe in Test Driven Development

Employees engage in a combination of remote and on-site work.
We expect new joiners in the office most days to build connections and learn from colleagues for their first six months. After that, most Wisers split their working week between the office and home, typically coming in at least 12 times a month.
