THE ROLE AND THE TEAM
 

At Partner Services, we are building and maintaining Zalando’s marketplace. Our platform consists of a broad array of services, empowering our partners to onboard, manage and sell their products on the Zalando shop.

As a Backend Engineer, you will be joining the team in Berlin under the mission to define, own, and build the experience that enables our partners to succeed on our platform, creating a seamless experience for them that democratizes their access to the fashion market. Collaborate with partners to understand their needs and develop solutions that enhance their selling choices. Work with cross-functional teams to implement new features and processes that enhance our partners' experience. Help position Zalando as the first choice for fashion partners looking to succeed in the industry and shape the future of fashion e-commerce.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Foster an inclusive culture and diverse team environment, leading by example with a strong work ethic and commitment to quality.

• Collaborate with principal engineers to evolve system architectures and proactively address technical challenges and bottlenecks.

• Mentor junior engineers, contribute to their professional growth, and perform constructive code reviews.

• Design, develop, deploy, and improve scalable software solutions that impact daily business operations with partners, using cloud technologies (AWS or Kubernetes) and a microservices architecture.

• Communicate project status, challenges, and solutions clearly to stakeholders, while managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively.

• Stay current with industry trends, continuously seeking opportunities for learning and improvement, and demonstrating a proactive, self-motivated mindset.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• You have solid knowledge of JVM technologies such as Scala or Kotlin, with experience in building libraries and tools to enhance developer productivity. Functional programming experience is a bonus.

• You are experienced in diverse environments and possess excellent English communication skills.

• You are passionate about fostering inclusive team environments and supporting the growth of less experienced peers.

• You have a strong grasp of computer science fundamentals and excel at solving complex problems.

• You have extensive experience in software development, particularly in designing and developing large-scale, distributed applications, tools, systems, and services.

• You are well-versed in cloud architectures and platforms like AWS, and have a good understanding of PostgreSQL.

• You excel in architecture/design methods, data and API specifications, quality assurance, and testing methods.
