What You Will Do
As an Intern - Classification Software Engineer in the Network Visibility (NBAR) team, you will:
- Assist in researching and analyzing application traffic patterns, SaaS services behavior, and internet infrastructure.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of analytics tools for processing and classifying large-scale network traffic data.
- Work with real-world datasets sourced from network devices globally to help classify application traffic and profile endpoints.
- Support the design and implementation of efficient algorithms for traffic classification and data-driven network visibility.
- Collaborate with expert engineers to improve network visibility, assurance, steering/routing policies, and security features.
- Gain hands-on experience with Cisco’s networking and observability solutions.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking a highly motivated student with strong coding and analytical skills, eager to gain industry experience in a cutting-edge networking environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a BSc or MSc or equivalent experience program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering at a leading university in Israel.
- Strong Python programming skills – ability to write clean, efficient, and scalable code.
- Basic data analysis experience – handling, processing, and analyzing structured data.
- Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently on tasks while collaborating effectively with the team.
Preferred Qualifications (desirable):
- Familiarity with big data frameworks (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) or experience in large-scale data processing.
- Understanding of networking concepts and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, QUIC).
- Interest in machine learning or statistical analysis for network traffic classification.
- Basic experience with databases (SQL, NoSQL) and data visualization tools.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS) or distributed computing environments.
Internship Details:
Part-time position: Approximately 2.5 days per week including 2 days in the office (flexible to accommodate academic schedule).
This is an excellent opportunity for a hard-working student to gain hands-on experience in network visibility, data analysis, and classification techniques while working with one of the industry's top engineering teams at Cisco ThousandEyes.
