About Team:
The Item Read Orchestrator (IRO) team plays a critical role in powering Walmart's eCommerce experience by enabling fast and reliable access to item data across Walmart.com, mobile apps, and in-store platforms. Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.
The Walmart Item Orchestrator team is seeking a Software Engineer III to join our dynamic and talented group. You'll collaborate with passionate engineers to deliver a top-tier site experience that scales to handle millions of queries per second across billions of items. As a team, we innovate and build features on technologies such as Java, Spring, Rust, reactive programming, Kafka, Cassandra, caching, Resilience4J, and Kubernetes. Our focus is on delivering high-throughput, low-latency systems where every millisecond matters.
What you'll do:
• Own scoped feature and model delivery through collaborative engineering teams, ensuring alignment with platform and system objectives.
• Write clean, efficient, and reliable code across multiple languages, driving full software development lifecycle including CI/CD and automated testing.
• Integrate AI and ML components to enhance software intelligence and development innovation.
• Participate in solution design, evaluating trade-offs and ensuring scalable, secure, and maintainable systems.
• Conduct code reviews, debugging, and defect management to maintain high-quality deliverables.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to translate business needs into technical requirements and measurable outcomes.
• Monitor application performance and support continuous improvement through proactive testing and observability.
What you'll bring:
• Proven expertise in object-oriented programming and documentation-based coding practices.
• Strong experience delivering scoped features and managing full software development lifecycle including CI/CD and automated testing.
• Proficiency in debugging, code review, and continuous development methodologies.
• Ability to design scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions aligned with platform and business objectives.
• Experience integrating AI/ML components and leveraging generative AI tools to enhance development efficiency.
