Overview

The Software Developer is responsible for developing, testing, and maintaining software solutions within TNS’s SDLC delivery framework. The role focuses on delivering reliable, maintainable, and efficient code that meets TNS quality and performance standards, while contributing to project delivery, testing, and system documentation.
The position works collaboratively as part of a professional technology team, supporting structured and timely delivery of technology solutions. It requires solid problem-solving ability, attention to quality, clear communication of progress and issues, and a willingness to learn and apply engineering best practices. The role contributes within established design and architectural direction, with less ownership and strategic influence than a Senior Software Developer.
The role typically requires experience in Java/J2EE, Spring/Hibernate, and SOAP/REST APIs, along with exposure to web technologies, testing practices, agile delivery, and modern development tools. Payment industry experience and familiarity with DevOps, cloud, and automation tooling are beneficial.

Responsibilities

Overall Objective: 

Working within the execute / delivery phase of TNS’ Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to develop software which meets or exceeds the company’s quality and performance standards including the preparation and maintenance of system documentation. You will function collaboratively as part of a professional technology team engaged in the structured and timely delivery of technology solutions. 

A Software Developer at TNS is expected to pursue self-improvement, innovation and the adoption of best practice to enhance the productivity and effectiveness of the team. As part of a vibrant and entrepreneurial working culture you will be assessed on your creativity and ability to contribute within the scope of your role and experience. 

This role will work within the software architecture and design direction provided by senior technical stakeholders and the TNS Global Architecture Function, contributing to the development of systems that meet required qualities such as modifiability, availability, and security. 

Responsibilities: 

Essential responsibilities include:  

  • Assisting with analysis, problem-solving, development and delivery of maintainable and efficient software solution elements across TNS’ business capabilities. 

  • Develop software which meets or exceeds TNS’ quality and performance standards. 

  • Function collaboratively as a member of a professional technology team engaged in the structured and timely delivery of technology solutions. 

  • Pursue self-improvement, innovation and the adoption of best practice to enhance the productivity and effectiveness of the team.  

  • Develop and execute test plans that thoroughly test applications and allow for quality implementation of applications. 

  • Prepare and maintain documentation of applications and systems. 

  • Communicate status, issues and risks with leaders in a timely manner. 

  • Deliver outcomes that fit within the design direction and architectural boundaries provided by the design team and senior developers. 

  • Contribute to a consistent and improving level of quality within the code base, working with the Quality Assurance team to support an efficient, high quality test capability. 

  • Provide delivery outcomes that minimize impact on operations while supporting third-level support activities and contributing to the stability of TNS’ enterprise applications. 

Experience / Qualifications: 

  • Experience developing Java and J2EE applications. 

  • Strong experience developing with Spring & Hibernate based Java applications and libraries. 

  • Good knowledge of distributed system APIs including SOAP/REST services & clients. 

  • Experience developing with JavaScript, ideally including experience with JQuery, AngularJS, Angular, React and TypeScript. 

  • Can work independently and/or in a team. 

  • Demonstrated experience contributing to work item estimates. 

  • Ability to manage time effectively, working towards and meeting agreed deadlines. 

  • Experience preparing and maintaining documentation of applications and systems 

Optional Desired Qualifications: 

  • Experience working within a Scrum team and understand the various Scrum roles. 

  • Experience writing User Stories and acceptance criteria. 

  • Experience with Atlassian suite of products such as Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo and Confluence. 

  • Experience with test-driven development using JUnit and Selenium. 

  • Experience with design documentation. 

  • Basic knowledge of: PostgreSQL, ActiveMQ, JMS, Spring Security, Quartz, Camel, CXF and JSON libraries. 

  • Experience with Maven, Gradle or Ant for building applications and maintaining dependencies. 

  • Experience in using JSPs, GWT, Spring MVC and Web Services. 

  • Good understanding of HTML, PHP, AJAX and CSS. 

  • Familiarity with basic AWS concepts and services including EC2, S3, CloudWatch, CloudFormation and Lambda 

  • Experience with automation tools such as ansible, docker, Kubernetes, chef, puppet 

  • Experience with Linux operating environments 

  • Proficiency with AI coding assistants and a strong conceptual grasp of generative AI development workflows 

Education / Certifications 

  • Computer science degree or equivalent work experience within a professional software environment. 

  • Payment industry experience highly desired
