At MISO, we’re on a mission to optimize and elevate our service management capabilities. As a Software Engineer III (ServiceNow) you’ll play a key role in working on technical development efforts within the platform team. You will help build and improve important tools in ServiceNow that support the technology used to manage the power grid. This job involves creating and updating ServiceNow features, connecting it with other systems, and working through the full process of developing software, from understanding needs, to designing, building, testing, and supporting the final product.
What You'll Do as our Software Engineer III (ServiceNow):
- Design and build ServiceNow applications to support ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, CMDB, Security Operations, Customer Service Management, and new platform capabilities while ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Write, test, debug, document, and support ServiceNow features using JavaScript, Glide APIs, and Flow Designer to meet business and compliance needs.
- Create and maintain integrations between ServiceNow and third‑party systems using REST APIs, Integration Hub, and other integration tools.
- Leverage ServiceNow AI capabilities, including Virtual Agent and Otto, to automate workflows and processes to improve operational efficiency and simplify operations.
- Ensure data integrity and security within ServiceNow by applying validation, access controls, best practices, and architectural standards.
- Use AI‑driven engineering practices to improve software delivery and stay current with emerging techniques.
- Collaborate in an Agile environment with architects, product owners, engineers, and business partners; support quality through automated testing and peer reviews; mentor junior engineers; solution design reviews; and monitor production applications to resolve issues.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (required), with at least five years of development experience and strong Agile skills within a structured governance environment.
- Hands-on ServiceNow development experience, including ITSM/ITOM/ITAM/CMDB, JavaScript (Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts), Flow Designer, and automated testing (ATF).
- Experience integrating ServiceNow with third‑party systems using REST APIs, Integration Hub, and other modern integration methods.
- Familiarity with the Common Service Data Model, Virtual Agent, Otto, and container technologies like Docker/Kubernetes (preferred).
- Certifications such as ServiceNow CSA, CAD, and ITIL v4 Foundation (preferred).
- Background working in environments with governance, risk, and compliance requirements; NERC CIP experience is a plus.
Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $125,000 - $150,000 USD annually. Base salary range for this position is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, and qualifications/experience.
Position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met. At MISO we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including 401k, vacation, sick and safe time, available on your first day of employment.
