Process Overview*

The Open Banking Channel is responsible for vendor and FinTech API integrations, supporting both inbound and outbound integrations that enable clients to achieve a comprehensive view of their banking data. As one of the bank's fastest growing digital channels, Open Banking enables thousands of FinTech partners to deliver innovative banking experiences through secure, customer-permissioned data sharing.

The team develops industry-standard API solutions that facilitate cutting-edge capabilities across Consumer Banking, Wealth Management, Private Banking, and Retirement businesses. The platform serves millions of customers, making stability, resiliency, scalability, and security fundamental to everything we build.

Job Description*

The Open Banking Channel Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting API service components that facilitate secure third-party integrations and customer-consented data sharing. The role requires strong technical expertise in APIs, authorization frameworks, monitoring tools, and distributed systems, along with the ability to collaborate across application development and infrastructure teams to ensure channel resiliency and operational excellence.

Responsibilities*

• Design, develop, and support scalable API services and integration components for the Open Banking platform.
• Build and enhance secure data-sharing capabilities between Bank of America and external FinTech partners.
• Collaborate with business, product, engineering, and infrastructure teams to deliver resilient end-to-end transaction processing solutions.
• Support platform stability, capacity planning, monitoring, and operational readiness initiatives.
• Drive technical design discussions and contribute to target-state architecture strategies across multiple lines of business.
• Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and industry standards related to API-based data exchange.
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement solutions to improve performance, availability, and reliability.
• Participate in Agile development practices, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release activities.
• Partner with stakeholders to identify opportunities for platform modernization and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge sharing, and engineering best practices.

Foundational skills*

• Strong understanding of API technologies and data exchange principles.
• Experience developing and supporting RESTful APIs and web services.
• Knowledge of OAuth 2.0 authorization framework and API security concepts.
• Strong strategic thinking skills with demonstrated ability to execute and deliver results.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work effectively across application development and infrastructure teams.
• Experience supporting highly available, scalable, and resilient platforms.
• Understanding of monitoring, capacity management, and performance optimization concepts.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.

Desired skills*

• Understanding of financial industry standards including:

• Open Financial Exchange (OFX)
• Durable Data API (DDA)
• Financial Data Exchange (FDX)

• Familiarity with API gateway technologies and integration platforms.
• Experience with Jira and Confluence.
• Experience with Splunk and AppDynamics for monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Exposure to cloud-native architectures and modern integration patterns.
• Knowledge of banking, financial services, or open banking ecosystems.
