At Northwestern Mutual, we provide real-time, highly available, and exceptional search capabilities for our Field and Home Office users. Our team handles over 5 million requests per month, making our work crucial to the success of our organization. Additionally, we provide a privacy workflow for the Field, enabling them to request and obtain permission to access client records. We also manage a compliant document management system for electronic documents used by our policy owners, Field, and home office teams.
Responsibilities: As a Software Engineer III, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining our critical systems. Your responsibilities will include:

• Implementing robust, scalable, and high-performance software solutions that meet business requirements and align with best practices and industry standards.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, contribute to technical specifications, contribute solutions to system-wide architectural problems while ensuring successful delivery through continuous improvement.
• Writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code, while adhering to coding standards and guidelines, ensuring consistency and efficiency in software development processes.
• Debugging and troubleshooting complex issues, ensuring the stability and reliability of our applications.
• Taking ownership of backlog items and actively contributing to the git repositories, driving the progress of projects, and delivering high-quality code.

Requirements: To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience working with modern engineering tools, languages, and practices.
• Strong JavaScript experience building backend REST and GraphQL NodeJS microservices.
• Familiarity with the Spring Framework and Junit; writing and debugging multithreaded Java applications.
• Experience with real-time data processing; and operation of 24x7 cloud-based, dockerized applications.
• Working knowledge of front-end components and frameworks like React, NodeJS, Typescript, Next.js.
• Experience with writing test suites of varying levels of complexity to assert system behaviors are as expected across variety of languages and integrations (i.e.: Jest, playwright, selenium).
• Self-motivated and driven with a demonstrated ability to learn quickly learn and adapt new technology.

• We're willing to teach in areas of full stack development you're not familiar with such as: Linux (CentOS), terraform and AWS services such as Aurora, S3, SQS, MSK, Kinesis, and DynamoDB.

• Knowing how to proactively communicate and maintain expectations with stakeholders (design, digital product, and others). Comfortable speaking in variety of settings, small and large group formats.

Pay Range - End:
$168,870.00
