The Senior Software Engineer serves as a core member of the Oceaneering Technologies (OTECH) group. Senior engineers are expected to learn OTECH processes and best engineering practices; and apply the knowledge towards expanding their software engineering skill set. This role is expected to take ownership of a PLC/C++ based hardware/software system.
OTECH produces and maintains unique underwater and surface systems – typically for US Navy and other US Government Department of Defense customers. Our projects are all one-of-a-kind. Projects range from quick burn to lifecycle management of fielded systems. The ideal candidate for this position possesses several years of experience in software development and has demonstrated ownership of a software product. They also work effectively and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
ResponsibilitiesApply working knowledge of the software lifecycle.
Ownership of a PLC/C++ hardware/software system.
Actively interface with the rest of the engineering team.
Communicate independently and effectively with teammates for issue resolution.
Creation and maintenance of software documentation. This includes requirements management, software documentation, unit testing, and software qualification testing.
Support software testing on the factory floor, offsite, and offshore.
- Understand user requirements, concept of operations documents, and system requirements specifications.
- Prepare reports and present results to stakeholders.
Schedules can be demanding throughout the year and occasional work outside normal working hours should be anticipated.
Essential Qualifications
- BS Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline. Commensurate experience will be considered.
- 2+ years of software lifecycle engineering experience with C++ and PLC’s.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft 365 environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Allen Bradley PLC's.
- Prior experience working within a hardware system that contains sensors such as cameras and laser line scanners.
- Solid written and oral communications skills, including ability to effectively document, convey, and present engineering concepts and products to team members and customers.
