Nectar is the all-in-one employee recognition and culture platform helping companies celebrate wins, strengthen connections, and reinforce core values. Ranked #1 software company in Utah on the 2025 Inc. 5000 list, we're growing fast and building tools that make people feel valued at work. We're looking for a Software Engineer to join our team and ship meaningful features across the full stack.
What You'll Do
You'll work across our entire product surface — backend services, frontend, and everything in between. Your day-to-day will include:
- LLM-Assisted Development — Writing, reviewing, and shipping code using LLM tools as a core part of your workflow. This means prompting effectively, evaluating generated output critically, and owning every line that goes into production.
- Backend API Development — Building, testing, and maintaining RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Database Work — Writing and optimizing PostgreSQL queries for performance and reliability.
- Frontend Development — Implementing layouts, styling, and UI components with attention to responsive design, CSS architecture.
- Client-Side Routing & State — Managing frontend navigation, tracking, and data flow between views.
- Progressive Web App (PWA) Support — Contributing to our PWA capabilities including service worker configuration, caching strategies, and offline behavior.
- Code Quality — Writing clear documentation, maintaining organized codebases, and participating in code reviews.
What Success Looks Like After One Year
A standout engineer at Nectar after one year has made LLM-assisted development second nature: you plan your approach, prompt with intent, validate output against edge cases, and own every line that ships. You complete full-stack tasks efficiently, and the depth and independence you bring to that work are what distinguish your level. You communicate clearly, collaborate well, and your teammates trust your follow-through. You stay current with best practices, proactively identify improvements, and approach problems with curiosity.
Preferred Experience
We don't expect one person to check every box, but here's what the ideal background looks like:
AI-Assisted Development
- Practical experience coding with LLM tools (plan mode, agentic workflows, prompt engineering). You understand where LLMs accelerate your work and where they fall short — hallucinations, context limits, and knowing when to trust the output and when to override it.
Backend
- Strong Node.js and Express.js experience
- PostgreSQL — writing efficient queries, indexing, and schema design
- RESTful API design and integration with third-party APIs
- Backend security awareness and familiarity with penetration testing concepts
- Unit and integration testing
Frontend
- Proficiency with Vue, Typescript, and SCSS
- Strong JavaScript/Typescript fundamentals
- Experience with Nuxt.js
- Understanding of responsive design, CSS custom properties
Operations
- Exposure to DevOps practices — CI/CD pipelines, deployment, monitoring, or infrastructure basics
