As a Software Engineer II you will take ownership of the development of new features for your team, working with cutting-edge technologies and owning this process end-to-end. You will bring a customer-centric approach with a curiosity and passion for continuous learning. About the Team
Our Product and Engineering teams build and evolve Rapid7's Insight platform, helping over 10,000 organizations assess risk, detect threats, and automate their security programs. Within this, our Cloud Security (CSPM) teams focus on identifying and analyzing risk across AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, and AliCloud environments.
A core part of our work is translating industry security and compliance standards into scalable cloud detection capabilities, ensuring customers can continuously assess and improve their cloud security posture.
We work with modern, cloud-native technologies including Python, AWS, and Go to deliver scalable, high-impact security solutions. Our engineers play a central role in building reliable systems that customers depend on every day
About the Role
As a Software Engineer II, you will contribute to building and enhancing the systems that power our cloud security capabilities. You will primarily focus on implementing small-to-medium features, improving reliability, and supporting scalable cloud-native services within the CSPM domain.
You will work closely with Senior and Staff engineers, growing your technical depth while taking increasing ownership of defined areas of the codebase.
Specifically, you will:
  • Write clean, correct, and maintainable code while consistently following engineering best practices and conventions
  • Own the execution of small-to-medium features from technical design through completion, with guidance as needed
  • Participate in technical design discussions and contribute thoughtful input
  • Develop a strong understanding of at least one major area of the codebase, while maintaining a high-level view of adjacent systems
  • Read and understand unfamiliar code to diagnose issues or extend functionality
  • Support on-call responsibilities for the areas of the system you contribute to
  • Collaborate with Product and peer engineers to prioritize effectively and avoid unnecessary complexity
  • Learn quickly, incorporate feedback, and steadily increase independence over time

The skills you'll bring include:
  • 2-5 years of software development experience, with hands-on experience in Python or a comparable backend language
  • Experience building or maintaining backend services in a cloud environment
  • Familiarity with AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, or AliCloud
  • Understanding of REST APIs, microservices, or distributed system fundamentals
  • Ability to debug issues within a defined service or subsystem
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
