About the Role

CharterUP is seeking a Software Engineer II to design, build, and support a wide range of customer-facing and internal systems that power our two-sided marketplace. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with engineering leadership, product managers, and cross-functional teammates to deliver scalable solutions that support our rapidly growing business. You’ll contribute to initiatives across multiple technical areas, including RESTful API services, web applications, mobile applications, data pipelines, and DevOps, taking ownership of well-defined projects from implementation through deployment and ongoing improvement.

Title: Software Engineer II 

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Location: This position is based in Austin, TX (Hybrid: Monday, Wednesday, Friday in-office).

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain high-quality software using JavaScript (Vue, React) on the frontend and Java on the backend, leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve efficiency and code quality
  • Contribute to deploying and operating applications in AWS, supporting scalability, reliability, and observability through modern tooling and automation
  • Follow established engineering best practices and thoughtfully incorporate AI-driven tools to enhance productivity and testing workflows
  • Collaborate in code reviews and technical discussions, sharing knowledge and continuously improving development processes
  • Partner cross-functionally with product and design to deliver customer-focused features and identify practical opportunities to apply AI for efficiency or impact

What You’ll Bring

  • 2+ years of professional experience as a full stack software engineer
  • Experience building frontend applications with modern frameworks such as Vue, React, or Angular
  • Backend development experience in JVM-based environments (Java, Kotlin, C#, etc.)
  • Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms and exposure to AI-assisted development tools or workflows
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ownership of well-defined features, and ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams
