Software Engineer II

Job Description:

Pacific Life is investing in bright, agile and diverse talent to contribute in our mission to modernize technology for the modern workforce, in support of a superior customer experience.  We’re actively seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our PL Technology group within the Technology Enablement team.  This role is hybrid in Newport Beach, CA.

As a Software Engineer, you will play a key role in Pacific Life’s technology direction and delivery of complex software solutions for Pacific Life.  You will join a dedicated and self-organizing agile team in developing our next generation applications, data transformation, and automation tools in the cloud.  Technical capabilities aside, if you are a mission-driven self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative engineering culture, this role will motivate you for years to come.   Successful candidates must have a strong background in Software Engineering, Architecture, CICD, and DevOps to drive superior digital solutions to support business scalability and growth.

What You’ll Do:

• Drive complex software projects, spanning across multiple engineering groups across Pacific Life.
• Analyzes complex business problems, evaluate technology solutions, and build working prototypes to share.    
• Partners with the business and other technical experts across the enterprise to develop cutting edge software.
• Function as a SME for modern software engineering, cloud and software automation tools, including the discovery and incubation of new capabilities. 
• Executing a project from requirements gathering to working software to share with the business and technology teams.
• Mine large and complex datasets for insights and conversion to new product features. 
• Communicate complex concepts and results in a clear and effective manner.
• Participate in peer reviews and technology collaboration with other Engineers, Architects and Analysts across the Pacific Life Technology team.

Factors for Success

• BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of experience in software development, data, and architecture design.  5+ years of cloud and automation expertise.
• Hands-on experience developing software, data integration, process automation and API services in AWS.
• Strong foundation with modern SDLC in various technologies (AWS Services, RDBMS, NOSQL, Python, C# on Windows/Linux OS)
• Good working knowledge for a variety of automation, integration, and business process management solutions. 
• Experience being part of a fast-paced agile software development team;
• Desire and ability to train, mentor, and develop technical skills of more junior automation engineers.

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
