What we’re looking for
We're seeking a motivated Junior Android Developer to join our team. This role is perfect for someone with a foundational understanding of Android development who is eager to grow their skills in a supportive environment.
What you’ll be working on
- Develop and maintain Android applications under the guidance of senior developers
- Design, build and maintain scalable and highly available services across multiple data regions while writing high-quality back-end code
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
- Identify and fix bugs and performance bottlenecks
- Participate in code reviews and implement feedback
- Stay updated with the latest Android development / backend practices and technologies
- Own features end to end, including crafting technical specs, writing readable and extensible code, and following software best practices which allow us to move quickly
- Build observable systems that track important metrics that help monitoring as well as make important product decisions
- Foster a culture of collaboration, testing, code reviews, and mentorship to help the team reach their full potential
We’d love to hear from people with
- 2+ years' experience in web / mobile application development mainly focused on the backend
- Basic knowledge of Android SDK, different versions of Android, and how to deal with different screen sizes
- Experience with Java and/or Kotlin programming languages
- Understanding of Restful APIs and JSON
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git preferred)
- Basic understanding of software design patterns
- Expertise in designing and building world-class services and APIs
- Experience with Python and frameworks like Fast API, Flask, Pyramid
- Strong fundamentals in object-oriented programming and design patterns
- Experience with ORM frameworks and SQL/NoSQL databases, experience with Elasticsearch a plus
- Experience with messaging and streaming frameworks like Kafka, Apache Spark, etc. a plus
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with both co-located and remote engineers and cross-functional partners
- A growth/data mindset in approaching challenges

As such, this opportunity is hybrid and requires you to work from the SurveyMonkey office in Bengaluru 3 days per week.
