Job Summary

Job Description

Telstra is a leading telecommunications and technology company with a proudly Australian heritage and a growing international presence. With over 3,200 employees across 30+ countries outside Australia, we serve thousands of businesses, government bodies, carriers, and OTT customers worldwide. Our extensive subsea cable network across the Asia-Pacific provides unmatched intra-Asia lit capacity. Telstra empowers organizations with cutting-edge technology solutions including data and IP networks, managed services, cloud, security, unified communications, and application development.

We’re looking for a skilled Full Stack Developer to join our growing engineering team. While this is a full stack role, your primary focus will be on building and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure backend systems. You’ll collaborate with front-end developers, DevOps engineers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions aligned with business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop backend systems and RESTful APIs using Java (11/17+) and Spring Boot.

  • Build secure, high-performance services, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Integrate with relational and non-relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB), including data modeling and query optimization.

  • Collaborate with front-end developers to integrate APIs and build seamless end-to-end solutions using React JS, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and solution design for backend systems.

  • Implement CI/CD pipelines in coordination with DevOps teams; support cloud-based deployments, preferably on AWS.

  • Write unit, integration, and API tests using tools like Postman, Selenium, and other automated testing frameworks.

  • Maintain code quality standards and resolve issues flagged by tools like SonarQube.

  • Monitor application health and performance using Splunk, New Relic, and similar tools.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, coordinate deployment activities, and showcase deliverables to stakeholders.

  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Full Stack Developer with a strong backend focus.

  • Strong programming experience in Java (11/17+) and backend frameworks such as Spring Boot.

  • Frontend development skills with React (latest versions), HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.

  • Solid understanding of RESTful API design and integration, including tools like Apigee.

  • Experience with database development and performance tuning in MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.

  • Familiarity with cloud environments, particularly AWS, including deployment and monitoring.

  • Working knowledge of Agile tools like JIRA.

  • Experience with SonarQube for code quality and Selenium/Postman for testing.

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and modern front-end best practices.

  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools like Splunk, New Relic, etc.

  • A strong team player who collaborates effectively—not an individual contributor-only mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory).

  • Exposure to containerization and orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes) is a plus.

This role is ideal for developers who are passionate about backend engineering but enjoy contributing to full-stack development. If you're looking to work on meaningful products at scale, in a team-driven environment, we’d love to hear from you!
