  • We are seeking a talented Python Microservice Developer to join our Digital Manufacturing team at Bristol Myers Squibb. This role combines modern software development practices with manufacturing systems integration, data engineering, and emerging AI technologies to drive digital transformation in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Knowledgeable in Agile software development, Service-oriented architectures, Continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • 3-4 years’ experience in IT with demonstrated success in delivering and custom-built solutions and managing/partnering with software vendors and service providers.
  • 3-4 years’ experience in RDBMS/RDS such as SQL server.
  • Deep analytical skills and logical thinking to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Able to collaborate across multiple teams  
  • Ability to understand the needs of the business and commitment to deliver the best user experience and adoption 
  • Experience with understanding of infrastructure setups/managing deployments ranging with varying complexities.
  • Experience in using/managing source code repositories like SVN, TFS, GIT, GitHub, Bitbucket
  • Must have knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Knowledge of integration technologies such as WebMethods.

Key Responsibilities

Microservice Architecture & Development 

  • Design and develop scalable Python microservices using FastAPI/Flask frameworks
  • Implement event-driven architectures using message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka)
  • Build robust error handling, logging, and monitoring capabilities
  • Develop authentication/authorization mechanisms and API gateway integrations
  • Create unit tests, integration tests, and maintain >80% code coverage

Pipeline Development 

  • Build ETL/ELT pipelines for manufacturing data using Python and SQL
  • Implement data quality checks and validation frameworks
  • Create data models for time-series manufacturing data
  • Develop streaming data processing capabilities
  • Design data archival and retrieval strategies. Collaborate directly with the business clients, IT Business Partners and other IT functions on delivery of digital capabilities.

Emerging Technologies

  • Integrate AI/ML models into microservices for predictive analytics
  • Support data scientists in model deployment and serving
  • Develop APIs for model inference and result visualization
  • Contribute to anomaly detection and quality prediction initiatives

MES & Shop Floor Connectivity 

  • Develop integration services for MES platforms (Syncade, Wonderware/AVEVA, or similar)
  • Create data adapters for real-time manufacturing data collection
  • Build interfaces for batch records, recipe management, and equipment integration
  • Support ISA-95 Level 2/3 system integrations
  • Ensure 21 CFR Part 11 compliance in all development activities. Accountable for managing day to day operational support, enabling the business to scale while improving key performance indicators impacting their efficiencies and improving overall customer experience.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 3-4 years of professional Python development experienceAdvanced Python 3.x with strong OOP, data structures, Pandas, and NumPy expertise.
  • Proficiency in FastAPI for REST API development, including authentication, rate limiting, and async operations; experience with Flask as alternative.
  • At least 1 year building RESTful APIs and microservices
  • Exposure to Kubernetes orchestration.
  • Git, Jupyter, and Docker for development workflows.
  • scikit-learn for traditional ML; familiarity with TensorFlow/PyTorch for deep learning.
  • Visualization with Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly; dashboard tools like Streamlit.
  • Strong storytelling for AI insights.
  • Exposure to manufacturing systems or industrial automation
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL
  • May lead initiatives related to continuous improvement or implementation of new technologies.
  • Articulates and presents complex information clearly and concisely across all levels. Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and expertise thereby establishing a strong reputation for themselves and the team.​
  • Looks for challenging opportunities and focus on building strong capabilities.
  • Demonstrates a focus on improving processes, structures, and knowledge within the team.

  • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist certification(s) a plus
  • SQL Server certification(s) a plus
