Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Software Engineer II is responsible for the analysis, development, implementation, and support of multi-layered enterprise applications. This role involves designing and developing new libraries, components, applications, services, or integrations, as well as enhancing existing solutions, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with appropriate resources to deliver effective solutions. The Software Engineer II also explores emerging technologies and anticipates industry disruptions. The role requires documenting and demonstrating solutions through comprehensive documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and adherence to coding standards.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conducts verbal interviews and other data gathering activities for preliminary analysis and support of application modifications and enhancements during the Software Development Life Cycle, with limited supervision and assistance from senior IT personnel.
  • Manages small program changes or projects lasting 1 to 4 weeks.
  • Modifies existing programs that require moderate redesign.
  • Collaborates with business analysts and customers to resolve problems and plan for future needs, working within an established office environment under normal lighting and climate controls.
  • Engages with users to understand system usage and enhancement or modification needs.
  • Utilizes computer and analytical skills to analyze, design, and develop new application systems, including designing color-enhanced computer screens.
  • Creates and modifies complex application programs, tests, debugs, documents, and maintains those programs under limited supervision.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of current application development techniques, such as object-oriented and client/server methodologies.
  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, Jenkins, and containerized deployments.
  • Professional experience writing software across multiple layers of the application stack (front-end, back-end, database technology, and data).
  • Experience in a team-oriented, cross-functional work environment with formal structures, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field and 3-5 years of relevant experience.
