Software Engineer II (Java/Spring)
Job Overview:
As a Software Engineer II, you will:
• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services, APIs, and integration components that support business and technology capabilities.• Build secure, scalable, and maintainable software solutions using modern engineering practices.• Develop and support RESTful APIs, service-to-service integrations, and data exchange patterns across internal platforms.• Collaborate with product owners, architects, software engineers, data engineers, and data scientists to translate requirements into technical solutions.• Participate in design discussions, code reviews, testing, and release activities to ensure high-quality software delivery.• Apply secure coding, logging, monitoring, and operational readiness practices throughout the development lifecycle.• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and contribute to long-term improvements in reliability and supportability.• Contribute to automation, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering process improvements that reduce manual effort and improve delivery speed.• Follow Mastercard technology, security, privacy, and compliance standards in the design and implementation of solutions.
Essential Skills & Experience
• 3+ years of hands-on software engineering experience building backend services, APIs, or integration solutions.• Strong programming experience in Java, Python, or a similar modern programming language.• Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs and working with service-based or microservices-style architectures.• Good understanding of software development lifecycle practices, including design, coding, testing, code review, CI/CD, and production support.• Experience with SQL and relational or analytical data stores.• Familiarity with Git, Unix/Linux environments, shell scripting, and automated build/deployment pipelines.• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to independently investigate and resolve technical issues.• Understanding of secure coding practices, authentication/authorization patterns, data protection, and operational controls.• Excellent communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working across engineering, data science, product, and architecture teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Java/Spring Boot or similar backend application frameworks.• Experience with API gateways, integration platforms, event-driven patterns, messaging, or batch/streaming integration approaches.• Exposure to AI/ML-enabled platforms, model integration patterns, or data-driven applications.• Experience with observability tools, logging, monitoring, alerting, and production support practices.• Exposure to Agile delivery methods and working in cross-functional delivery teams.• Ability to work across multiple priorities while maintaining a strong sense of ownership and delivery accountability.• Proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced technology environment.
