We are looking for motivated and talented Software Engineers who want to help us solve some of the most complex challenges in financial technology. Technology teams at CME Group write and maintain ultra low-latency electronic trading platforms, risk management systems, and front-end trading interfaces, all of which are central to CME Group’s business. We are focused on designing, building, and deploying customer focused solutions with passion and precision.

Software Engineers at CME Group will gain unparalleled experience in electronic trading and financial technology. They will have the opportunity to work on a variety of applications and projects that directly impact the global trading ecosystem.Our engineers work on a wide variety of projects including developing cloud infrastructure, researching blockchain technologies, and applications that directly impact the trading lifecycle.

Software Engineers will participate in the Rotational Development Program for approximately 12 -18 months to gain experience working with multiple teams on different projects and using different technologies. Upon successful completion of the program, Software Engineers can expect to advance to a Level II position as an SE, Platform Engineer, Reliability Engineer, or other adjacent role. Not only will the Rotational Development Program give you greater insight into our technology teams and functions, you will also enjoy social events and targeted professional development through your participation.

These are full-time, hybrid roles (2-3 days per week in office), based out of our state-of-the-art headquarters in Chicago, which includes a complimentary coffee and snack bar, as well as a game room and social space.

Principal Accountabilities

• Conducts coding at a small task level; potentially minimal design.

• Conducts unit testing of own code. Reviews unit tests with mentor.

• Exhibits basic proficiency in language knowledge; Writes application modules and unit tests with guidance.

• Exhibits knowledge of basic database SQL and basic database modeling.

• Implements designs received from managers or immediate supervisors.

• Optimizes code with supervision. Applies learning from prior code reviews and helps with environment build deployments. Corrects identified defects and issues.

Minimum Skills & Software Requirements

• Basic knowledge of SQL and performance of basic modeling.

• Experience in object-oriented design and software development.

• Proficiency in Java and/or Python.

• Experience with source control and build tools (e.g. GIT, Stash).

• Strong communication and collaboration skills and ability to work in a team environment.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Curiosity, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

Bonus Qualifications:

• Experience developing server-side applications.

• Experience working in financial technology.

• Proficiency in UNIX/Linux and shell scripting.

• Experience in Javascript or REACT.

• Experience working with cloud technologies.

The pay range for this role is $75,100-$125,100. Actual salary offered will be dependent on a wide array of factors including but not limited to: relevant experience, skills, education and comparison to internal employees (where relevant).
