Job Description

The Engineering Team at Wise is central to what has made the business successful. Having product-focused and forward-thinking engineers has allowed Wise to cater to the needs of customers unlike any other business. They have built a world-leading platform and product, but there is still more to do.

The Fraud Handling team at Wise is dedicated to enhancing the efficiency and precision of our fraud detection and prevention processes. Our primary focus is on developing and refining internal tools and systems that empower our fraud agents to make quicker and more accurate decisions. By improving these core processes, we aim to reduce operational costs, speed up decision-making, and bolster customer trust, ensuring that our platform remains secure and user-friendly. This is an exciting opportunity for engineers who are passionate about leveraging technology to combat fraud and make a tangible impact on the safety and integrity of financial transactions worldwide.

Recently, the Fraud Handling team has been engaged in developing sophisticated tools and processes to identify and mitigate scam activities effectively, thereby protecting our customers and the platform from potential threats. Additionally, the team is working on automating redundant steps in fraud review processes, which not only enhances operational quality but also significantly reduces the time taken to resolve cases.

Here's what we use:

Backend:

  • Java

  • Spring Boot 

  • SQL Databases 

  • Kafka

  • Gradle

Frontend:

  • React

  • Typescript

  • Next.js

Here’s what we do:

  • Building APIs which support our product journeys 

  • Build customer facing and internal tools

  • Test new features to gauge customer response 

  • Own and support microservices, contribute to our overall architecture

  • Work with Product Managers to decide improvements to our journeys

  • Monitor our systems through dashboards and strong alerting

 

Qualifications

About you:

  • Professional experience with Java, Spring Boot, React

  • 4+ years of experience

  • Great communication skills

  • Happy to work in an environment where what needs to be built isn’t always clearly defined 

  • Confidence working in a team with a high delivery rate 

 

Nice to have:

  • Background in financial technology

  • Experience with customer interviews or A/B test

  • Experience with Product Management roles

  • Confidence with data tooling such as Superset or Grafana

Hybrid Workspace

Employees engage in a combination of remote and on-site work.

We expect new joiners in the office most days to build connections and learn from colleagues for their first six months. After that, most Wisers split their working week between the office and home, typically coming in at least 12 times a month.
