Millions of users, from individuals to large organizations like Toyota, Figma, and OpenAI, love Notion for its flexibility and choose it because it helps them save time and money.

In-person collaboration is essential to Notion's culture. We require all team members to work from our offices on Mondays and Thursdays, our designated Anchor Days. Certain teams or positions may require additional in-office workdays.

About The Role:

Millions of people use Notion — and this number is increasing every day. That means millions of people trust us to deliver a fast, reliable, and secure experience, and we value this more than anything. We want to keep earning trust, while also continuing to amaze our users with the tools they can build in Notion.

The Data Product Platform team is responsible for designing, implementing, scaling and operating systems, tools and frameworks to build data powered product experiences and to enable data driven decisions. You’ll join a team of talented engineers in our mission to build the best in class foundational data capabilities that are key to the company’s business and product. Notion’s data platform and infrastructure are vital to both empowering every team at Notion to make decisions using data and experimentation, and enabling our product features like search, automations, user notifications, workspace analytics and Notion AI.

What You'll Achieve:
  • You'll own and play a pivotal role in the development of systems, tools and infrastructure that democratize data access and enable analytics capabilities across the organization.

  • You'll work cross-functionally with engineers and partners from the Product, Data Science, Data Engineering and AI teams to deliver short- and long-term impact.

  • You’ll work on all levels of the stack including infrastructure, libraries and product code as needed to successfully build and deliver internal platforms that provide high leverage to multiple product teams.

  • You’ll help in influencing / executing the roadmap for data infrastructure and systems to power high scale product features using Notion’s data.

  • You'll be responsible for monitoring and operating systems in production. You’ll understand systems deeply, optimize performance and evolve critical production systems with minimal user disruption.

Skills You'll Need to Bring:
  • Passion for systems at scale: You have worked on data or infrastructure-focused engineering teams, particularly ones that own a wide swath of software platforms (hosted or built in-house). You've experienced the challenges of scaling and re-architecting event-based platforms and infrastructure through orders of magnitude of growth and scaling data volume. You deeply care about performance and cost while delivering value.

  • Knowledge of asynchronous workflow systems. You have worked on systems that execute tasks asynchronously, handle complex workflows, and manage job scheduling. You understand the trade-offs between different orchestration patterns and can design systems that are both reliable and scalable.

  • Adaptable and willingness to learn how things work: you love to learn how the systems you build are used at a fundamental level. You get excited at the idea of leaning into your users’ world and help make it better.

  • Thoughtful problem-solving & problem-seeking: For you, problem-solving starts with a clear and accurate understanding of the context. You can decompose tricky problems and work towards a clean solution, by yourself or with teammates. After gaining context, you can identify patterns and scope for improvements.

  • Pragmatic and business-oriented: You care about the business impact of what you're building, and you prioritize projects accordingly. You're not just going after cool stuff—you understand the balance between craft, speed, and the bottom line.

  • Empathetic communication: You communicate nuanced ideas clearly, whether you're explaining technical decisions in writing or brainstorming in real time. In disagreements, you engage thoughtfully with other perspectives and disagree and commit when needed.

  • Team player: You understand work is better, together. You enjoy collaborating cross-functionally to accomplish shared goals, and you care about learning, growing, and helping others to do the same.

Nice to Haves:
  • You've built out and scaled event-based platforms at a fast-growing startup.

  • You’ve had prior experience with asynchronous workflow systems or event-based architecture, using technologies like Kafka and Redis.

  • You’ve had past experience working full-stack in Typescript and node.js ecosystem.

We hire talented and passionate people from a variety of backgrounds because we want our global employee base to represent the wide diversity of our customers. If you’re excited about a role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every bullet point listed in the job description, we still encourage you to apply. If you’re a builder at heart, share our company values, and enthusiastic about making software toolmaking ubiquitous, we want to hear from you.
