Software Engineer — Cooperative Technologies
Cooperative Technologies (“CT”) is the only company in the US that provides ceding carrier data for annuity and life insurance exchanges, making the platform the de facto standard for replacement processing. The market for US annuity sales is projected to double to ~$900B by 2030 with CT at the center of that growth.
CT is at an inflection point and looking for future leaders to champion the next phase of growth for the organizations. The company is now searching for an AI force multiplier engineer who can help own a product roadmap and write the code to ship its product. Working in an entrepreneurial fully remote environment, the hired candidate will have high-visibility and autonomy.
OTE Compensation: 100k to 120k USD
What You'll Actually Do
- Maintain and manage CT's Azure cloud infrastructure such as App Services, Front Door, SQL Server, and Web Application Firewall
- Manage client security questionnaires, write and maintain security policy documentation, and run disaster recovery testing.
- Communicate directly with clients during new software installations and troubleshoot connectivity or configuration issues as they arise.
- Generating 30%+ of your code output using AI-assisted development tools—and using them thoughtfully to accelerate delivery without sacrificing quality.
- Shepherd end-of-life cycle products while keeping existing systems running smoothly.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on experience with the Windows .NET stack — C#, ASP.NET, WCF, REST, XML/JSON.
- Direct experience managing Microsoft Azure services including App Services, Front Door, SQL Server, and Web Application Firewall.
- Demonstrated ability to write, maintain, and troubleshoot code across multiple layers of a web-based application.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Java in a production or legacy-support context.
- Experience leveraging open-source libraries, APIs, or no-code tools to solve problems quickly without over-engineering.
- Prior involvement in security compliance processes with questionnaires, policy documentation, or formal DR testing programs.
- Experience in a small engineering team or startup environment — comfortable with shifting priorities and picking up work that does not have a clear owner.
- Exposure to enterprise New Business or policy administration systems in the life insurance industry.
What Success Looks Like — First 90 Days
- First client onboarding or connectivity issue resolved end-to-end, with the process documented for future reference.
- At least one report was built or modified for client invoicing, deployed and confirmed accurately.
- Azure infrastructure managed independently by monitoring, configuration, and incident response handled without escalation.
Who You'll Work With
You'll report to CT's product and engineering leadership and collaborate directly with clients during onboarding and support escalations. You'll work alongside the PM and existing engineers, each covering a broad slice of the product and operations surface.
