Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.

About the role

The Software Engineer on the Content Ingestion team will design, build, and maintain ingestion pipelines that process millions of assets from linear feeds and multimedia files, powering real-time content matching, recommendations, and advertising insights for Roku's ACR (Automatic Content Recognition) platform. This role focuses on full-stack operations across cloud and on-premises environments, including creating APIs, batch jobs, and infrastructure using AWS and GCP. The engineer will serve as a key liaison between US-based content partners and the engineering team in Seoul, South Korea, ensuring smooth data flow and partner communication. Day-to-day work includes setting up instances, managing deployments, implementing monitoring and observability, and participating in on-call rotations for critical production services. The ideal candidate brings 1–3 years of hands-on engineering experience with a strong foundation in cloud operations, DevOps, and scripting. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to make a meaningful impact on a globally distributed platform reaching millions of households.

How will I use AI at Roku?

At Roku, we don't just use AI; we work with it. AI agents and smart tools help power drafts, analysis, and repetitive workflows, while our people bring direction, judgment, and accountability. We're looking for curious, adaptable builders who can show how they've used AI or automation to move faster, raise the bar, and scale their impact. We value your AI skills if you have built fluency across the agentic engineering toolchain — coding harnesses like Claude Code or Cursor, MCP servers, custom skills, or agent frameworks. And you can describe projects where you shipped real work with these tools. You know how to drive an agent, verify its output, and ramp on an unfamiliar codebase with an agent helping you.

At Roku, we're embracing AI as a powerful tool to amplify human creativity, accelerate innovation, and deliver better results for our customers. Across teams, we're exploring how AI can enhance our work—and we're looking for people who are curious, adaptable, and excited to grow alongside these technologies.

What You'll be doing
  • Design, implement, and maintain APIs and batch jobs for asset ingestion, processing, and distribution
  • Create and manage infrastructure for both on-premise and cloud (AWS/GCP) deployments using Terraform and Ansible
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager
  • Participate in on-call rotations for critical production services
  • Optimize system performance, reduce costs, and manage technical debt
  • Communicate with US-based content partners to gather requirements and coordinate data ingestion
  • Collaborate with international engineering teams in Utah and Seoul, South Korea, including attending cross-timezone standups
  • Drive AI methodologies and agentic AI workflows within active code repositories
  • Conduct knowledge-sharing demos and perform code reviews
  • Manage containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Work with CI/CD pipelines and version control via Git
 We're Excited if you have
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 1–3 years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, or cloud operations
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following languages: Python, Bash, C++, or Go
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and/or GCP (Compute, Storage, Networking, Managed Services)
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and Ansible
  • Experience with containerization technologies including Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes
  • Strong understanding of Linux distributions and command-line tools
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., Postgres) and non-relational databases (e.g., MongoDB)
  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
  • Understanding of message queues, caching strategies, and horizontal/vertical scaling
  • Fluency across the agentic engineering toolchain, including coding harnesses like Claude Code or Cursor, MCP servers, custom skills, or agent frameworks
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly for cross-timezone and cross-cultural collaboration
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and flexibility to occasionally collaborate across international time zones

What should I know about Roku's culture?

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.

We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
