About the Job

Squint is hiring a Software Engineer, Backend Infrastructure. You’ll architect and scale the core backend systems that power our platform, improving reliability, performance, and developer velocity as we grow. This is a high-ownership role where you’ll shape foundational infrastructure, influence technical direction, and help build a culture of craftsmanship and impact.

Must be comfortable working out of our Downtown SF office Monday through Friday.

Why You’ll Love This Role
  • Real-world impact. You’ll build systems where reliability and performance genuinely matter for the world’s largest manufacturers.

  • High ownership, high craftsmanship. As an early engineer, you’ll influence core architecture and technical direction while focusing on simple, elegant, well-architected systems.

  • Foundational infrastructure. Our stack is working but still maturing (Terraform, observability, streaming, etc.). You’ll define how Squint’s backend infrastructure is designed, built, and operated.

  • Broad engineering scope. You’ll work across infrastructure and backend product surfaces—from build/test/deploy loops and cloud primitives to new capabilities like video streaming and observability—gaining exposure to a wide range of systems and problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scale and harden Squint’s backend infrastructure: compute, networking, data stores, and core services.

  • Build and evolve our observability stack (metrics, logs, tracing, alerting) to improve uptime and debuggability.

  • Improve CI/CD pipelines and release processes to support fast iteration with high confidence.

  • Drive reliability engineering practices: incident response, postmortems, SLOs, and prevention-focused tooling.

  • Mentor and uplevel the team on infrastructure best practices, performance tuning, and operational excellence.

  • Partner with Engineering leadership on system design and technical strategy as we grow.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure infrastructure supports product needs and compliance requirements.

  • Flexibly jump in wherever needed–we’re a startup!

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with a strong focus on infrastructure, platform, or DevOps.

  • Experience designing, scaling, and operating production backend systems on a major cloud provider (GCP, AWS, or Azure).

  • Hands-on experience with core infrastructure tooling such as Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and modern CI/CD.

  • Strong observability instincts and familiarity with monitoring/logging stacks (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana).

  • Proficiency in backend languages such as Python, Node.js, or Go.

  • Comfort across data systems, including relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and non-relational (MongoDB/Firestore) databases.

  • High energy, clear communication, curiosity, and customer empathy, paired with a collaborative, high-ownership mindset.

Benefits

Based out of our office in San Francisco, we love the energy of in-person collaboration.

  • Competitive Salary and Equity

  • Comprehensive Medical, Vision, and Dental care

  • Flexible PTO Policy

  • Lunch and Dinner Service

  • Wellness Benefit

  • Maven Family Planning Benefits

  • Partnership with Care.com
