Job Requisition ID #
We believe there is a better way to design our cities. To enable this, we aim to transform how architects and engineers work through collaborative, outcome-driven design tools. By leveraging web and cloud technologies, we strive to create exceptional user experiences while building a connected ecosystem that bridges traditional desktop applications like Revit and Civil 3D with modern web apps.
We are expanding beyond our successful Forma Site Design app (formerly Spacemaker) into exciting new domains like detailed Building Design and Transportation. Nobody knows exactly what these next-generation apps will look like—that's where you come in. You'll join a team with real ownership over both what to build and how, constantly balancing user insights with the technical complexity of building new design products.
Our challenges As a Software Engineer In Our Design Apps Teams, You Will Be Part Of Both Discovering What We Should Build And Building It. Here Are Some Of Our Challenges
- Developing an intuition for how architects and engineers work so we can invent better tools for them – in their current workflows or enabling altogether new, better workflows
- Providing users with smart, generative design tools that strike the balance between automatic generation and leaving the user in control
- Implementing delightful and performant 3D graphics in the browser, using WebGL/WebGPU capabilities, custom shaders and other smart techniques
- Solving spatial problems in 2D and 3D, using efficient geometry algorithms that can provide the user with real-time feedback at 60 fps in the browser
- Understanding Autodesk’s broad portfolio of design software, and figuring out how our web-native apps should fit seamlessly together with our desktop apps
We use whatever technology is best adapted to the problems we are facing, and this typically revolves around some combination of TypeScript, React/Preact and Three.js for the frontend and s3 or DynamoDB for the backend. Read more about how we reason about technology and product development in our tech core beliefs and product core beliefs.
Who We’re Looking For We move fast and we're serious about what we're building. The way we do that is by trusting engineers to make their own decisions. We're looking for people who are comfortable with that; who thrive when expected to shape their own work and move from insight to solution.
We’re hiring across all levels, so it doesn’t matter if you have 20+ years of experience or come straight out of school. It also doesn’t matter if you consider yourself full-stack or more of a specialist; we need both.
We believe great products are built by teams with diverse perspectives and experiences. We value engineers who are curious, collaborative, and motivated to learn. You don’t need to know everything on day one—we believe strong teams grow together.
All in all: if you get excited by the challenges we are facing, we would love to hear from you
