Software Engineer - AI

Nobody went into accounting to spend the first week of every month matching transactions by hand. Maxima was built so they don't have to. Our agents do the accounting work itself: journal entries, transaction matching, reconciliations, and flux analysis, in real time and to SOX standards. Accountants review and approve. Maxima is the first agentic AI platform for enterprise accounting. Our founders oversaw the finance org at Rubrik and built the month-end close systems at Twitter and Netflix. We are working on some of the hardest problems in enterprise automation, with an engineering team that includes staff-level talent from Robinhood, Glean, Google, Netflix, and Meta. The system handles high-volume financial data and complex accounting workflows, and every execution has to be accurate and reliable, because the output is a company's books.

As an AI Engineer at Maxima, you will work where AI systems and product meet, building the agentic workflows behind enterprise accounting automation. This is not pure research or modeling. The job is turning modern AI capabilities into reliable, production-ready systems that customers use every day, in financial workflows where reliability is not optional.

You will work closely with product, design, and engineering to ship end-to-end features, and you will help shape how AI is developed, tested, and deployed across the company. We value engineers who are pragmatic, product-minded, and excited to take AI systems from experimentation into dependable production.

• Design and iterate on prompts, evaluations, and model interfaces

• Build and orchestrate agent workflows

• Integrate AI components deeply into the product and infrastructure

• Make AI-driven systems reliable and scalable in high-stakes financial workflows

• Ship end-to-end features with product, design, and engineering
  

• 2 or more years building product at high-growth companies

• Familiarity with the latest AI developments, practices, and frameworks

• Familiarity with web development, relational databases, and distributed systems
  

• Experience with data pipelines, mission-critical systems such as fintech, or complex workflow engines
  

This role is based in our San Mateo office. We value in-person collaboration and are in office four to five days a week for our on-site roles.
