The Role
Design, build, and operate highly available, scalable backend services and APIs powering Netflixs Creative Studio. Lead architecture, data pipelines, and integrations with GenAI and ML platforms, set technical direction, mentor engineers, and collaborate across product, design, and partner teams to deliver reliable, high-performance creative tooling.
Summary Generated by Built In

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.

We launched a new ad-supported tier in November 2022 to offer our members more choice in how they consume their content. Our new tier allows us to attract new members at a lower price point while also creating a compelling path for advertisers to reach deeply engaged audiences.

Our Team

The Netflix Ads org builds the sophisticated advertising systems and integrations that power our rapidly growing ad-supported tier. We leverage Netflix's unique innovations to connect advertisers with our deeply engaged global audience, ensuring an ad experience that complements our members' premium entertainment.

The Creative Studio team owns the end-to-end experience advertisers use to build, preview, and approve their creative assets. We own the Creative Builder and Asset Library user experiences, along with the Compositing Service that powers high-fidelity previews and the Creative Studio Service that powers the broader creation workflow. We are driving significant bets to raise the quality and speed of creative moving through our platform, including GenAI-powered format, instant previews, auto-assembly, and intelligent, automated workflows that drastically reduce advertiser friction and time-to-market. Our tooling directly fuels a virtuous flywheel of engagement: by removing friction from the creative process and empowering advertisers to elevate their creative quality, we unlock superior ad performance, higher ROI, and a more premium experience for our members.

As Netflix rapidly expands its advertising tier, a critical new growth engine closely watched by both our C-suite and the broader media industry, the tools our advertisers use must be best-in-class. This role is about defining and building the highly available, scalable backend services and APIs that power those tools. You will be at the cutting edge of our GenAI format innovation, building the data pipelines and service architecture that enable the massive scale, speed, and sophistication required to make Netflix a dominant player in the digital advertising space.

We are looking for a backend engineer who can move quickly to set architectural direction across our services, raise the technical bar in design and execution, navigate highly ambiguous problems, and mentor the engineers around them.

Skills & experience we're seeking:
  • 9+ years of experience designing, building, and operating highly available, scalable, and performant backend services in production.

  • Deep expertise in backend engineering, including microservices architecture, database and data modeling, and cloud infrastructure (e.g., using Java, Go, Python, or similar).

  • A strong history of writing production-quality, well-tested, and maintainable code, including API design (REST/gRPC), asynchronous processing, and system monitoring.

  • Strong large-scale system design skills, with the ability to bridge business needs and technical implementation and to proactively advocate for reliability, efficiency, and scale.

  • Experience designing and implementing backend APIs, data pipelines, and services that integrate with complex systems, including Generative AI models and machine learning platforms.

  • A track record of tackling complex, ambiguous technical problems and developing pragmatic, long-term solutions, including laying the architectural foundations for new services and features.

  • A demonstrated ability to raise the technical bar of a team through high-quality code reviews, design docs, and execution, and to mentor and grow other engineers.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • A history of successfully driving alignment across cross-functional teams (e.g., Product Management, Design, and partner Engineering teams) to deliver against ambiguous, dense roadmaps.

  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while handling multiple priorities effectively.

Nice to haves:
  • Prior experience building tools for digital advertising, with a strong preference for knowledge in ad creatives, creative management, or campaign-building platforms.

  • Familiarity with creative lifecycle management, asset libraries, creative building workflows, and pipeline development.

  • Experience building backend services or interfaces for machine learning applications or GenAI workflows, particularly in ad review, auto-assembly, or creative generation systems.

  • Understanding of the Connected TV (CTV) advertising space and its unique constraints and formats.
