Software Development Manager

Base Salary: $135,000.00 to $170,000.00 depending on experience.

Toshiba America Business Solutions, Inc. (TABS) is looking for a software engineer to join our cloud development team to build the next generation web services and applications.  We are leading Internet of Things (IoT) efforts within Toshiba.  We develop products and services in the cloud using Microsoft Azure. 

The opportunity is available with the Documentation Solutions Engineering (DSE) division, headquartered in Lake Forest, CA.

As a software engineer, you will design, implement and deliver web services and applications using C#, ASP.net and MVC. SQL experience is valuable.

Summary:

Provide direction and management for software design, development, and maintenance of Toshiba products and services to meet business objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of software engineers. Mentor team members to help them develop their skills and experience.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to team members on technical contributions through code and design reviews. Hold regular 1:1s with all members, giving regular and clear performance feedback.
  • Lead or conduct interviews during the hiring process for new candidates as needed.
  • Manage planning, design, implementation and maintenance of assigned engineering projects.
  • Break down projects and requirements into organized tasks to be assigned to and completed by developers.
  • Collaborate with other managers to ensure plans and schedules continue to fit within the overall product development context.
  • Prepare and present project proposals, schedules, manpower and cost estimates for all assigned development areas.
  • Monitor and report on the development and implementation of projects, reviewing and evaluating interim results for quality and technical completeness.
  • Minimize rework by focusing on the clarity of requirements, quality in software implementation, and component testing.
  • Take timely and effective management action to prevent deficiencies, reporting these actions or recommending alternative approaches to senior management when problem escalation is necessary.
  • Promote technical innovation by staying abreast of software technology trends and sharing information with other GTSE and TTEC members.
  • Advance Toshiba intellectual property rights through the creative application of technical trends to current projects, proposing new projects, and documenting ideas as invention disclosures.
  • Work with management to understand and apply best practices for software development.
  • Seek process innovation by researching and adopting best practices for software development life cycle continuous improvements, champion within GTSE, and evangelize to other Toshiba Tec development teams.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical degree (such as Computer or Electrical)
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant computer industry experience, including HW/SW systems design, PC/Windows software development and network systems development required with a minimum of 2 years in an engineering
    management, project lead or a role providing heavy work direction to less senior engineers.
  • Proven experience with Agile SDLC methodologies and implementation of process best practices to deliver high-
    quality software products.
  • Experience hiring and building a team of software engineers, growing their skills and capabilities by providing
    guidance and coaching to team members on technical contributions preferred but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to collaborate with Team Members.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/ Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to travel overseas
