Benevity is the way the world does good, providing companies (and their employees) with technology to take social action on the issues they care about. Through giving, volunteering, grantmaking, employee resource groups and micro-actions, we help most of the Fortune 100 brands build better cultures and use their power for good. We’re also one of the first B Corporations in Canada, meaning we’re as committed to purpose as we are to profits. We have people working all over the world, including Canada, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and more!
Benevity is on a dynamic growth trajectory, where embracing change is part of our DNA. We're looking for a talented Software Development Manager to lead multiple engineering teams in a fast-paced, collaborative, diverse and inclusive environment. The ideal candidate has a robust software development background, including AI-led development, and strong experience in cloud infrastructure. Our teams are fungible: they work on developer experience (DevX) and SDLC improvements as well as core business capabilities, including financial services and business-layer features that empower companies (and their employees) to make a trusted positive impact across the globe. You'll work closely with technical leaders, product leaders and stakeholders to deliver value that exceeds client expectations. We're looking for a delivery-driven, accountable leader who communicates clearly, juggles multiple priorities with ease, and uses AI tooling to scale their impact, all while bringing a positive, can-do attitude to the team.
What you’ll do:
Lead multiple teams in the AI-DLC process, championing AI-forward ways of working to deliver software solutions at pace across DevX/SDLC and core business work
Own delivery outcomes for your teams: set clear commitments, track them, and follow through
Provide direct people leadership: recruiting, performance management, team culture and engagement, budget and cost control
Develop and coach team leads and senior engineers, building leadership depth across your teams
Move people and capacity between teams as priorities shift, keeping teams correctly resourced and skilled, and flag resourcing issues to senior leadership
Own internal adoption and enablement of releases, partnering with Product, Support, Customer Success and other internal teams on readiness, documentation, training and communication
Maintain the technical depth to engage credibly across domains, validate assumptions, and guide sound technology decisions that balance business, engineering and architectural objectives and Benevity standards, governance and controls
Coordinate prioritization and scheduling with product management, and understand current and future business context so resourcing and cost decisions align with business needs
Provide visibility into team execution and release adoption through regular (weekly, monthly) performance measures and reporting, aligned to the Benevity Scorecard and Playbook
Use AI tooling in your own work (planning, reporting, analysis, communication) to scale your impact, and coach your teams to do the same
Ensure teams commit time to engineering-led innovation and carry promising PI (passion & innovation) projects through to completion
What you’ll bring:
Hands-on experience with agentic and AI-assisted software development, and with using AI tooling to scale your own leadership work
A successful track record leading multiple engineering teams working with cloud-based technologies
End-to-end SaaS product development experience, at scale, in enterprise environments
A strong delivery mindset: you're accountable, follow through on commitments, and get results across competing priorities
A track record of driving internal adoption and enablement of new tools, platforms or releases
Comfort leading teams across DevX/SDLC and product-facing work, and shifting capacity between them
Excellent written and verbal communication, including with non-technical stakeholders
The ability to multitask and reprioritize without losing sight of what matters most
Passion for developing people, building team culture and engagement, and building technology teams in high-growth companies
Technical knowledge, including at a code level, to validate assumptions and guide sound technology decisions
Empathy, positivity and self-awareness, plus the ability to build business context that fosters a sense of team excellence
A passion, not pedantry, for development methodologies, with the ability to adapt your approach
Satisfaction in leaving code, processes, and people better than when you got there, and curiosity about the latest technologies and best practices
