The Software Development Manager leads a team of developers through the entire software development lifecycle, from planning and design to testing and deployment. This role balances technical guidance with project management to ensure software products are delivered on time, within budget, and to high quality standards. The manager establishes development standards and best practices, maintains code quality and system architecture, and acts as the key link between the development team and upper management.

What You'll Work On:

• Lead technical design and architecture discussions, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and align with long-term technology goals.
• Manage the end-to-end software development lifecycle, including sprint planning, resource allocation, and project timelines, using agile methodologies.
• Develop proof of concepts with hands on responsibility.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide ongoing mentorship, and support the professional growth of individual software developers.
• Define and enforce team-wide coding standards and best practices through consistent code reviews to maintain software quality and consistency.
• Act as the primary technical contact for product managers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications.
• Oversee the software release and deployment process, including management of CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth and timely delivery of new features.
• Direct the recruitment and hiring process for new developers, from interviewing technical candidates to facilitating team integration.
• Manage budgets for software, tools, and training, and report on project status and team performance to senior leadership.

You Have: 

• 5+ years of experience with software development
• 2+ years of experience managing and leading software engineering teams
• Experience designing software architectures for scalability, reliability, and performance
• Experience with programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript
• Experience with Agile methodologies and sprint planning tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps
• Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
• Experience debugging, performance optimization, and version control systems such as Git
• Top Secret clearance
• HS diploma or GED
• Security+ CE Certification

• Ability to lead and mentor across varied technical teams
• Ability to manage resource allocation, team workload, and project prioritization
• Ability to stay up to date with the latest software development technologies and methodologies
• Possession of strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
• Possession of excellent project management skills
• TS/SCI clearance  
• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field preferred; Master’s degree in a STEM field a plus
• PMP, AWS, ITIL, or CSM Certification

Clearance: 

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Top Secret clearance is required.

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $99,000.00 to $225,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
