Position Summary
This position is responsible for contributing to the design, coding, testing, and debugging of platform and system software tasks of small to medium complexity. Working on a variety of technical problems of varying scope, the Software Development Engineer II implements high-quality code and deploys features or APIs under general supervision. Collaborates closely with team peers to development of features, participating in design and code reviews to ensure system stability and quality.
Primary Responsibilities
- Contributes to the development of small to medium complexity tasks, working on a variety of technical problems of varying scope & complexity.
- Develops feature code along with writing unit and functional tests, supporting larger components.
- Participate in design and code review to ensure quality and stability of features.
- Effectively work with peers on team-oriented projects. Proactively collaborates with other software engineers on design, best practices, and code reviews.
- Consistently applies good software design, implementation, and test principles.
- Able to design, implement, and test new functionality with minimal supervision.
- Upholds F5’s Business Code of Ethics.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Coding experience in a high-level language such as: GoLang, C/C++, Java, etc. GoLang highly preferred.
- Linux user experience desired, with the ability to navigate Linux OS and common scripting languages: Python, Bash, etc).
- Understanding of networking concepts and the OSI model.
- Knowledge of using Docker, Docker Compose, and containerized development workflows desired.
- Working knowledge of modern version control such as: Git/GitLab, CI/CD pipelines.
- Use of modern IDEs, such as: VS Code, GoLand.
- Experience interfacing with system hardware and firmware interfaces.
- Experience using generative AI to optimize coding and software development workflows.
- Understanding of the end-to-end product development lifecycle.
- Duties are performed in a normal office or remote home-office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table.
- Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over phone/video channels, and read technical and printed material.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or similar field or 3+ years equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in a high-level coding language: GoLang and Python highly preferred.
- Ability to collaborate, adapt, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance team environment.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a focus on driving continuous improvement and efficiency.
- Demonstrated excellence in both written and verbal communication.
