Software Development Engineer II (SDE II) – EDI Applications
Are you driven to shape the future of healthcare through technology? Do you love turning bold ideas into real‑world impact using cutting‑edge tools — including AI-powered solutions — that transform the customer experience and eliminate complexity? If you’re excited about building intelligent, scalable systems that meaningfully improve people’s lives, we want you on our team.
At Premera, we’re undergoing a technology transformation focused on simplifying healthcare processes and improving how providers and members interact with our systems. As part of this work, you’ll join a small but smart team of engineers who care about growing together, exploring new technologies, and applying them in meaningful, practical ways to solve real healthcare challenges.
As a Software Development Engineer II on the IT Applications team, you will support the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) organization. This team is instrumental in building and maintaining tools that enable providers to exchange electronic claims and eligibility information. You will develop and enhance custom applications in an agile environment while helping drive the future of Premera’s applications platform.
What you’ll do
- Participate in conversations with business partners and technology teams to design effective technical solutions
- Develop, enhance, and maintain custom applications using an agile delivery approach
- Write high-quality, testable code with a strong focus on automation and continuous improvement
- Triage, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues while communicating clearly with stakeholders
- Demo the technology you build and incorporate feedback from users and partners
- Contribute to team discussions around design, quality, and best practices
What you’ll bring
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems
- One (1) year of software development experience, knowledge of software development lifecycle, and skills to utilize one or more programming languages
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with cloud platforms, ideally Azure
- Background in healthcare or other highly regulated environments
- Previous experience working in an agile team environment
- Exposure to API‑driven and service‑based architectures
- Working knowledge of Python, JavaScript, HTML, JSON, and XML.
- Experience with X12 and FHIR formats.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with EDI workflows or platforms such as Facets
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience in software or application development
- Strong proficiency in C# with working knowledge of .NET technologies
- Solid understanding of SQL, especially MS SQL Server
- Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and common engineering practices
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non‑technical partners
The systems you build will directly shape how providers exchange critical data, improving accuracy, reducing cost, and making healthcare simpler and more accessible. You’ll join a collaborative engineering team that values curiosity, continuous learning, and smart use of technology to solve real‑world challenges. Your work will influence how people experience healthcare every day, and your ideas will help drive the next generation of intelligent, scalable solutions.
