You are an engineer who believes that reliability isn’t just a goal to strive toward; it’s the absolute bar you set. You want to build the best systems in the world, achieve the highest uptime in the industry, and you hold yourself to that standard every day. You take your responsibilities seriously and thrive in an environment where the work is genuinely high-stakes and rewarding.
What you'll do:You will be part of the foundation that everything else at Geotab is built on, building and continually improving the core platform that services over 6 billion API requests per day. You will make hands-on code changes—spanning both application code and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC)—to enhance the systems that every engineering team relies on to build, ship, and scale their products.
Specifically, you will:
- Manage mission-critical applications: Take real ownership over systems that matter—including the reverse proxy, the core API gateway, and the platform registry—where downtime is immediately noticed by a global fleet of connected vehicles.
- Modernize the platform: Help revolutionize the system by rebuilding core applications and services to run in Kubernetes.
- Collaborate and lead: Work closely with senior engineers across the company to help shape exactly how Geotab builds and operates infrastructure at scale.
We’re in the middle of a major migration to Kubernetes, moving the most mission-critical services at Geotab into a modern, cloud-native architecture on the cloud. You’ll have real ownership over systems that matter:
- Help migrate production services into Kubernetes – this involves both application and IaC code changes
- Build AI-enhanced observability and monitoring systems that keep 6B+ daily requests running reliably
- Design intelligent alerting that separates signal from noise — so on-call means resolving real problems, not chasing false positives
- Define and track SLIs and SLOs for the applications at the heart of the Geotab platform
- Build dashboards, runbooks, and automated tooling
- Participate in post-incident reviews (PIRs) to identify root causes, propose and implement systemic, long-term reliability improvements
- 2+ years of software development experience in C# or a comparable object-oriented language
- Hands-on Kubernetes experience — deploying workloads, debugging in production
- Cloud platform experience (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
- Strong Linux and distributed systems fundamentals
- Solid engineering practices: code review, testing, Git
- Solid grasp of core networking concepts, including load balancing, DNS, mTLS, and HTTP/S
- Observability tooling experience (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar)
- Familiarity with SRE practices — SLOs, error budgets, toil reduction
- Experience operating systems at high scale (100M+ requests/day)
- PostgreSQL or SQL Server database experience
- Prior experience participating in an on-call rotation for mission-critical production systems
- Along with your resume, please include a brief cover letter (one page maximum) that answers the following two questions:
- What attracts you most to this specific role at our company?
- Describe a time you solved a complex problem relevant to this position.
We use AI heavily across our entire engineering workflow — writing and reviewing code, debugging production issues, drafting documentation, and building solutions faster than was possible before. We’re looking for someone who sees AI as a force multiplier and wants to stay ahead of how it’s reshaping the way software is built and operated. Experience with AI-assisted development (Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar) is a plus; optimistic curiosity with AI is a must.
