The Research Software Engineer (RSE) will support the design, development and implementation of innovative digital health solutions for individuals with multiple sclerosis and other neurological diseases. This role will focus on building an electronic screening tool and patient facing self-management applications, enabling scalable, data-driven approaches to monitoring cognitive function and improving patient outcomes.
The RSE will work within a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, researchers, and data scientists across collaborating institutions to translate clinical and research needs into secure, user-centered software.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:- Lead development including front end user interface and back-end data infrastructure
- Collaborate with research team to operationalize cognitive and behavioral assessments into digital formats
- Ensure applications are user friendly, accessible, and appropriate for individuals with cognitive and physical impairments.
- Develop secure systems for data capture, storage and integration with research databases and/or electronic health records
- Implement scalable and reproducible data pipelines for longitudinal patient reported and clinical data
- Apply best practices in software engineering version control, testing and documentation
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, IRB, and data security standards
- iterative development through user testing feedback loops and continuous improvement
- Contribute to grant submissions, progress reports, and dissemination of findings
MINIMIUM QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, data science or a related field
- 2-5+ years of experience in software development Proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript, or similar)
- Experience with web and or mobile application development
- Familiarity with databases and data management (SQL/NoSQL)
- Experience using version control systems
