About Vagaro
Vagaro is a global leader in cloud-based business management software for the salon, spa, beauty, fitness, and wellness industries. Our product-led platform helps businesses manage scheduling, payments, marketing, and operations in one place.
Job Summary
We are looking for a hands-on iOS Architect to own the architecture, quality, and scalability of the Vagaro Pro and Vagaro customer iOS apps. You will set technical direction for the iOS platform, lead the modernization of a large production codebase, and raise the engineering bar across the mobile team.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the iOS app architecture: modularization, layering, state management, navigation, and dependency injection.
- Define and drive the iOS technical roadmap, including the Objective-C to Swift and UIKit to SwiftUI migration.
- Author architecture decision records (ADRs) and design docs; review and approve significant designs and critical PRs.
- Design API contracts with backend teams covering REST, pagination, error handling, offline sync, and versioning.
- Set and enforce targets for crash-free users, hangs, launch time, app size, and memory usage.
- Lead root-cause analysis for production crashes and incidents, and drive fixes to closure.
- Define the iOS testing strategy (unit, UI, snapshot, integration) and automation coverage gates per release.
- Own app security: Keychain usage, certificate pinning, token handling, and OWASP MASVS alignment.
- Improve CI/CD, Xcode build performance, the release train, phased releases, and feature flag usage.
- Mentor iOS engineers, run architecture reviews, and take part in technical hiring.
Required Skills
- 7+ years of software engineering, including 5+ years building native iOS apps shipped at scale.
- 2+ years in an architect, tech lead, or principal role owning architecture decisions.
- Expert in Swift, with strong working knowledge of Objective-C for legacy code and hands-on SwiftUI and UIKit interop.
- Strong in Swift Concurrency (async/await, actors) and Combine, with a solid grasp of GCD and the app lifecycle.
- Expert in MVVM, Clean Architecture, the Coordinator pattern, and modular project structure using Swift Package Manager.
- Experience with Core Data or SwiftData, Keychain, URLSession, Codable, and protocol-based dependency injection.
- Proficient with Xcode build settings, schemes, code signing, provisioning, and CocoaPods/SPM dependency management.
- Testing with XCTest, XCUITest, and snapshot testing; performance work using Instruments, MetricKit, and launch-time and memory optimization.
- Experience with Firebase Crashlytics, APNs, and App Store Connect (TestFlight, phased release, review guidelines).
- Mobile CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps and Fastlane.
- Clear written communication for design docs, ADRs, and RCA reports.
Good to Have
- Working knowledge of Android or Kotlin Multiplatform.
- Experience with WKWebView/React screens embedded in native apps and bridge design.
- Mobile payments or POS experience (card readers, Tap to Pay on iPhone, PCI considerations).
- Accessibility (VoiceOver, WCAG) and localization at scale.
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS products.
