HiBob helps modern, mid-size businesses transform the way they manage people, giving HR and managers all they need to connect, engage, develop, and retain top talent. Since 2015, we’ve achieved consecutive triple-digit year-over-year growth, all backed by our amazing team of Bobbers from across the globe, making us the choice HRIS of over ~5500 midsize and multinational companies and over 1.5 Milion users.
Our HR platform is intuitive, data-driven, and built for the way people work today: globally, remotely, and collaboratively.
About The Role
HiBob is building a scalable data platform that powers our product, analytics, and AI capabilities. We’re looking for an Architect to shape the technical direction of the Data Platform group - helping teams make high-quality architectural decisions faster and turning complex, cross-cutting challenges into clear, pragmatic paths forward.
Reporting to the Data Platform Group Director and working alongside Team Leads, you’ll be the group’s senior individual-contributor architect. You will guide architecture across our Data Infrastructure, Data Engine, and Data Framework teams, with particular emphasis on data-intensive application architecture.
You’ll stay close to technical design, delivery, and production - not only to define direction, but to ensure it works in practice.
Job requirements
What you bring
- Extensive experience as a Software Architect, Principal Engineer, or Staff engineer in data-intensive, distributed applications.
- A proven ability to independently make sound technical decisions and solve complex, ambiguous problems across multiple teams and systems.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, including the trade-offs among consistency, reliability, performance, scalability, and operability.
- Hands-on experience designing and evolving application-facing data platforms, APIs, frameworks, or query and data-access layers.
- Strong knowledge of technologies such as PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, Cloud Infrastructure, and complex data systems.
- Experience evolving complex production systems through migration, decomposition, or modernization - not only designing greenfield systems.
- A practical architecture mindset: able to balance long-term direction with delivery needs and make trade-offs explicit.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly for architecture reviews, technical decision records, and cross-team alignment.
- Experience with sensitive data, security, privacy, permissions, or multi-tenant systems is a strong advantage.
- Experience enabling analytics, semantic data access, or AI-ready data platforms is a strong advantage.
Job responsibilities
What you’ll do
- Set and evolve the architectural direction for the Data Platform group, balancing long-term platform strategy with pragmatic, executable decisions.
- Lead cross-team design reviews and drive alignment on significant technical decisions, including the trade-offs behind them.
- Create clear design documents, reference architectures, standards, and reusable patterns that enable teams to make high-quality decisions independently.
- Partner with engineers and Team Leads through critical stages of delivery to preserve architectural intent, resolve emerging trade-offs, and ensure designs work in production.
- Guide the evolution of data-intensive applications and platform capabilities across data access, query and application frameworks, streaming, storage, reliability, scalability, and security.
- Drive incremental modernization of existing systems - including migrations, simplification, and architectural improvements - without compromising customer reliability or delivery momentum.
- Build foundations that enable product teams to access and operate on data safely and efficiently, including permission-aware access to sensitive HR data.
- Ensure the platform is ready for trusted analytics and AI use cases through robust data contracts, governance, observability, lineage, and secure access patterns.
- Identify systemic technical risks, architectural gaps, and recurring friction - and turn them into durable capabilities rather than one-off solutions.
- Mentor engineers and raise the bar for technical thinking, system design, and execution across the group.
