The VIAVI RANtoCore™ platform offers end to end testing from Radio Access to Edge to Core. TeraVM products within this platform are enabling successful commercial wireless deployments guaranteeing the highest standards. TeraVM is a complete end-to-end validation solution enabling carriers, mobile virtual network operators and network equipment vendors to validate the network topologies, systems and devices by generating control and user plane traffic.
Statistics and key performance indicators are provided to validate the functionality and performance of mobile services or to assess performance of individual nodes of the mobile network.
The Software Application & Support Engineer applies expert knowledge of TeraVM products by identifying and resolving technical issues as well as removing technical barriers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The role:
- Responsible for providing technical support and/or leadership in the creation and delivery of technology solutions designed to meet customers’ business needs and, consequently, for understanding customers’ businesses.
- Create and maintain effective customer relationships to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Maintain knowledge of telecommunications industry/market domain knowledge.
- Actively contribute to the company’s solutions portfolio by providing information ranging from technical knowledge to methodologies based on experience gained from customer projects.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for implementing part or all of the technical solution to the client, in accordance with an agreed technical design.
- Understands a broad spectrum of company technology to provide part or all of a detailed technical design which meets customer requirements.
- Often leads small to medium technical projects.
- Works with and under the direction of the Project Manager/Solution Architect and with customer nominated representatives.
- Liaises with Solutions Architect as appropriate.
- Provides technical support and input on the application of technology within the Telecommunications Domain.
- Provides advice on solution and integration opportunities to defined segments.
- Provides technical leadership on specific integration activities that are part of an engagement.
- Provides planning and design support for the development of solution architectures that will be implemented in a multiple system environment.
- Communicates across client community and is viewed as adding value.
- Contributes to knowledge tools and communities and ensures project learning's are documented and shared.
- Role models Knowledge sharing and re-use within practice or profession.
Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:
Education and Experience Required:
- Experience of working in Telecommunications Industry.
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in computer science / Telecommunications or related area of study.
Knowledge and Skills:
- OS Proficiency - Linux (Ubuntu/Debian).
- Good Understanding of Networking Concepts IP, UDP, TCP, SCTP.
- Good Understanding of Programming languages C/C++.
- Linux scripting - Shell scripting, Python.
- Knowledge and experience with Test Automation tools such as Jenkins, Robot or similar.
- Experience in working with Virtualization technologies such as:
◦ KVM, ESXI.
◦ Private and Public Cloud - AWS, Azure, OCI, GCP.
- Must have demonstrable knowledge of mobile network protocols, services and applications used by mobile operators and network equipment manufacturers.
◦ L4-L7 Application protocols, OSI Model and common routing and switching protocols.
- Good knowledge of 3GPP Telecommunications protocols, e.g., 3G/4G/5G Application Protocols.
- Strong knowledge of Telecom Network topologies, components and architectures.
- Has sufficient depth and breadth of technical knowledge to be individually responsible for the design and scope of deliverable within a field of expertise.
- Has led small team in delivery of a specific deliverable.
- Has mastered at least one technical discipline with strong knowledge in at least three major technology areas.
- Has ability to perform/drive resolution of problems on combinations and interactions of products.
- Ability to apply technology and consulting to solve a client business problem.
- Able to communicate and present complex issues with assurance and confidence. Demonstrates the use of consulting skills including: questioning, listening, ideas development, permission and rapport, and influencing.
- Ability to conduct/lead oral status/technical interchange meetings with customers on small to medium sized engagements.
- Owns and produces customer documentation. Ability to translate technical details into concise and easy to understand written form. Ability to translate verbal requirements from face-to-face client meetings into requirements documents, statements of work, and proposals.
- Able to discuss (within own area of expertise) requirements with a customer, and to challenge and clarify when appropriate. From the requirements, able to develop a high-level design or plan, and then estimate the amount of effort required to deliver. Able to advise the engagement owner about the risks associated with this work package.
- Ability to work with a team to provide written responses to technical proposals and documentation for delivery.
Travel Requirements:
The role is likely to involve remote and some travel to key customer site for direct engagements – flexibility to travel may be required (Up-to 50%).
