Eyewitness News, serving the Rockford region through WTVO-TV, WQRF-TV, and MyStateline.com, is seeking a dynamic and driven Social Media Producer to help shape and amplify our digital voice across platforms. This role is key to engaging our community, expanding our reach, and reinforcing our brand identity in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin.

As part of the Nexstar Media Group, we’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom, understands the pulse of local audiences, and knows how to craft compelling content that resonates—whether it’s breaking news, weather alerts, or community stories.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute social media strategies that reflect the Eyewitness News brand and connect with our local community.
  • Manage and grow multiple social media accounts, tailoring content to each platform’s strengths and user expectations.
  • Use third-party tools to schedule, monitor, and optimize posts across multiple social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with digital and broadcast teams to promote high-performing stories and pitch content to external partners for broader exposure.
  • Monitor SEO trends and provide actionable insights to the digital team to enhance story visibility and search performance.
  • Work closely with reporters, producers, and anchors to highlight unique newsroom offerings and drive engagement.
  • Writes stories for the web and other digital platforms
  • Reviews copy and will correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
  • Track and report on social media metrics to guide future strategies and content decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in journalism, social media or related field
  • Expert understanding of social media platforms.
  • Strong writing skills with a knack for crafting clickable headlines and engaging posts.
  • Ability to adapt tone and style to fit platform norms and brand voice—fun and conversational when appropriate, serious and respectful when needed.
  • Excellent multitasking and organizational skills in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Familiarity with audience behavior analytics.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Premiere for basic graphic and video editing.
  • Solid understanding of AP style and digital storytelling best practices.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or during breaking news events.

Pay Range for this position is: $15.00
