Substack is building a new economic engine for culture, with over 5 million paid subscriptions to writers, podcasters, and video-makers on the platform. We’re driving a fundamental shift in how writers and creators reach their audiences. As our Social Media Manager, you will produce engaging, creative social content that elevate Substack’s profile among creators and consumers alike.
In this role, you’ll amplify Substack and the stories and voices of Substack creators across our social channels, especially on Substack Notes, TikTok, and Instagram, while helping us develop new channels. You’ll be eager to collaborate, and comfortable moving quickly while maintaining a high level of execution. This position will report directly to the Editor.
Core responsibilities:
Create, edit, and produce audio, visual, and written editorial for Substack’s social media channels
Track and report on post performance and Substack mentions on social media platforms
Collaborate with team members from Communications and Writer Relations to tell the Substack story
Execute original editorial formats and video series tailored for each platform, bringing fresh ideas to the table
Manage internal requests, maintain the content calendar, and communicate with contractors
About You:
Experience producing short-form video projects. A background as a creator is a plus!
Ambitious, with a high sense of initiative.
Excellent written and verbal communicator, able to foster understanding and teamwork remotely and cross-functionally
Passionate about free expression, empowering creators, and reimagining media beyond traditional advertising models
Located in San Francisco (preferred), Los Angeles or New York City
Substack’s compensation package includes a market-competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles, and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation salary range for this role is $90,000 to $120,000. Multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, determine final offer amounts and may vary from the amounts listed above.
