ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County is looking for a creative and reliable college student to join our marketing team as a Social Media Marketing Intern. This role is a great fit for someone interested in social media, content creation, design, video or storytelling.


You’ll help create messages, capture photos and videos at events, brainstorm campaign ideas and learn how a marketing team turns community stories into action. This is hands-on experience you can add to your resume and portfolio while supporting work that matters in San Antonio.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN & EXPERIENCE

  • Create, draft and schedule content for Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Capture photos, short videos and Instagram Stories at events, volunteer projects and community moments
  • Help turn ideas into simple graphics, reels and short-form videos using tools like Canva, CapCut or mobile editing apps
  • Join brainstorming sessions for campaigns, social media takeovers and storytelling projects
  • Support day-of posting and engagement during campaigns, events and special initiatives
  • Track basic social media performance and learn how analytics shape future content
  • Help maintain the content calendar so posts stay organized and on schedule
  • Support partner, volunteer and influencer engagement efforts
  • Take on other marketing projects that help you learn, grow and contribute to the team

Requirements

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Current college student
  • Interest in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Design, Journalism, Digital Media or a related field
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Experience using social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube or X/Threads is helpful, but curiosity and willingness to learn matter most
  • Reliable transportation for occasional local events, meetings or training
  • Enjoy social media and pay attention to what makes content engaging
  • Can write and edit short copy using a positive, professional voice
  • Have basic design or video editing skills or are excited to build them
  • Are organized, reliable and able to follow through on deadlines
  • Bring creative ideas and are open to feedback
  • Are comfortable working with a team and taking initiative on your own
  • Are curious about marketing and storytelling
  • Have created content for a class, club, campus organization or personal account

  • Hybrid schedule available: 3 days on-site and up to 2 days remote, based on team needs and school schedule
  • Downtown office with free parking
  • Work takes place in a professional office environment and at occasional local events
  • Typical work hours fall Monday through Friday between 8:15 am and 4:45 pm, with occasional evening or weekend support for events
