Summary Generated by Built In

We are looking for a hands-on Snowflake Platform Administrator to manage, optimize, and strengthen our Snowflake data platform. Our technology environment supports business-critical financial services operations, where data accuracy, security, availability, performance, and governance are essential. You will work closely with our Data Operations, Data Engineering, Database, Infrastructure, and Application teams to ensure that data moves reliably and securely across our ecosystem.

This is not a role focused only on routine Snowflake administration. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the platform, troubleshoot complex issues, automate repetitive processes, optimize costs and performance, and progressively contribute to the overall architecture of our data environment.

A significant part of our data ecosystem also involves Microsoft SQL Server, making the ability to understand data movement and dependencies between SQL Server, Snowflake, and other enterprise systems particularly valuable.

What We Expect You to Do

Snowflake Platform Administration

  • Administer and maintain Snowflake environments across Development, Testing/UAT, and Production.
  • Own day-to-day platform health, availability, configuration, and operational stability.
  • Configure and manage databases, schemas, warehouses, roles, users, resource monitors, and other Snowflake objects.
  • Establish standards and best practices for managing Snowflake environments.
  • Troubleshoot platform-level issues and work with Data Engineering and Database teams to resolve production problems.
  • Support platform upgrades, new capabilities, and architectural improvements.

Performance & Cost Optimization

  • Continuously monitor Snowflake warehouse utilization, query performance, storage consumption, and credit usage.
  • Optimize warehouse sizing, auto-suspend, auto-resume, scaling, and workload allocation.
  • Identify expensive, inefficient, or poorly performing queries and work with relevant teams to optimize them.
  • Review query profiles and execution patterns to identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Optimize clustering strategies, caching, materialized views, and other Snowflake performance features where appropriate.
  • Establish resource monitors, alerts, and controls to prevent unnecessary Snowflake consumption.
  • Provide visibility into platform usage and identify opportunities for cost optimization.

SQL Server & Enterprise Data Integration

Our data environment involves significant interaction between SQL Server and Snowflake, and you will help ensure that data moves accurately and reliably between these platforms.

You will:

  • Support connectivity and data movement between Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake, and other enterprise systems.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data ingestion and synchronization issues.
  • Work with Data Engineering teams to identify failures, latency, missing records, or data-quality issues within pipelines.
  • Support ETL/ELT platforms and automated data integration workflows.
  • Configure and maintain Snowpipe, stages, file formats, and ingestion processes.
  • Validate data movement between source systems and Snowflake.
  • Assist in root-cause analysis where data discrepancies occur between source and destination systems.

Security, RBAC & Access Management

Given the nature of the data we work with, security and controlled access are fundamental responsibilities of this role.

You will:

  • Design and administer Snowflake Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).
  • Implement least-privilege access principles across databases, schemas, tables, views, and warehouses.
  • Manage user provisioning, de-provisioning, service accounts, and role assignments.
  • Support authentication mechanisms including SSO, MFA, OAuth, and key-pair authentication.
  • Conduct periodic user and access reviews.
  • Implement and maintain row-level access policies, column-level security, and dynamic data masking.
  • Monitor privileged access and identify inappropriate or excessive permissions.
  • Maintain auditability of platform access and administrative activities.

Data Security, Governance & Compliance

  • Help establish appropriate governance controls for sensitive financial and customer-related data.
  • Implement appropriate masking and access policies for sensitive information.
  • Maintain Snowflake audit logs and platform activity records.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements by providing access, configuration, and usage evidence.
  • Ensure platform configurations align with organizational information-security policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to continuously improve data governance and security standards.

Data Quality & Operational Reliability

We expect the Snowflake Administrator to look beyond infrastructure and understand whether the data platform is operating correctly from a business perspective.

You will:

  • Monitor critical data pipelines and scheduled workloads.
  • Identify failed, incomplete, delayed, or abnormal data loads.
  • Support validation between source and destination datasets.
  • Investigate data discrepancies and assist with root-cause analysis.
  • Develop SQL-based validation and reconciliation checks.
  • Help automate recurring data-quality and platform-health checks.
  • Work closely with Data Operations teams to improve reliability and reduce manual intervention.

Automation & Operational Improvement

We want to progressively reduce manual platform administration.

You will:

  • Identify repetitive administrative activities that can be automated.
  • Develop scripts and workflows for monitoring, access management, validation, deployment, and maintenance activities.
  • Support CI/CD implementation for Snowflake objects and database changes.
  • Work with Git-based deployment and version-control processes.
  • Support infrastructure-as-code initiatives where applicable.
  • Build alerts and automated monitoring for failures, unusual consumption, security events, and platform-health issues.
  • Continuously improve operational processes and reduce dependency on manual intervention.

Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity

  • Manage and validate Snowflake data-retention configurations.
  • Understand and administer Time Travel and Fail-safe capabilities.
  • Support backup, recovery, replication, and failover strategies.
  • Participate in disaster-recovery and business-continuity planning.
  • Conduct periodic recovery and failover validation where required.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for recovery procedures.

Monitoring & Incident Management

  • Proactively monitor platform health, failed jobs, warehouse utilization, query performance, and unusual activity.
  • Investigate production incidents and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Coordinate with Data Engineering, Database, Infrastructure, and Application teams during critical incidents.
  • Document incidents, findings, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
  • Develop runbooks for recurring operational scenarios.
  • Recommend long-term fixes rather than relying solely on temporary resolutions.
