SNOW REPORTER JOB SUMMARY:
The Snow Reporter, under the supervision of the Marketing Manager, is responsible for creating, updating, and distributing accurate daily snow and mountain condition reports. This includes publishing multiple updates per day across the website, app, social media, and other communication channels. The role involves capturing and editing photos and videos, supporting content creation for marketing campaigns, and assisting with events, promotions, and e-commerce projects. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, detail-oriented, proficient in digital media, and passionate about skiing or snowboarding.
QualificationsESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS:
- Mountain Operations Communication: Maintain daily contact with Patrol, Snowmakers, Groomers, and Lift Maintenance to gather accurate mountain conditions.
- Daily Reports: Create and update snow, weather, trail, lift, and activity information for the resort website, app, and other outlets.
- Snow/Grooming Report: Write and publish the daily Snow and Grooming Report to digital platforms.
- Snow Phone Updates: Record and update the snow phone message daily.
- Social Media Content: Assist in creating engaging content for Facebook, Instagram, X, and other platforms to raise awareness and strengthen the resort’s brand.
- Event Coverage: Capture live photos and videos of on-mountain events for immediate and future marketing use.
- On-Snow Reporting: Ski or snowboard daily to assess conditions and gather authentic photo/video content.
- Team Collaboration: Work with co-Snow Reporters to ensure consistent and cohesive messaging.
- Marketing Support: Assist the Marketing Manager and Content Coordinator with photography, writing, and other creative content for campaigns and materials.
- Website Content: Help maintain current and accurate website information consistent with brand guidelines.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Schedule Flexibility: Able to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written abilities for both reporting and guest-facing updates.
- Attention to Detail: Ensure accuracy and consistency in all reporting and content creation.
- Social Media Proficiency: Skilled in Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other platforms.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Google Sheets, Docs, and Gmail; experienced with DSLR and action cameras (e.g., GoPro).
- Website Knowledge: Experience with web design or content editing preferred.
- On-Snow Ability: Advanced skier or snowboarder with the ability to evaluate conditions firsthand.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the ski industry preferred.
- Independent Work: Capable of managing multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion: Strong enthusiasm for skiing, snowboarding, and the outdoor lifestyle.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Associate’s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires skiing or snowboarding on varied terrain and in variable conditions. Employees must be able to carry cameras and equipment, bend, lift, and move efficiently while outdoors. Extended screen time is also required for digital reporting and content creation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The Snow Reporter works in a mix of indoor office settings and outdoor mountain environments. Duties often take place in winter weather conditions, including cold, wet, or snowy environments. The pace is fast, especially on weekends and holidays. Mission Ridge maintains a drug- and alcohol-free workplace and a non-smoking facility. Due to the seasonal nature of the ski industry, hours may fluctuate, and weekend/holiday work with extended shifts is expected.
