Sedgman is in the process of recruiting for a SMP Checker to join our team in Brisbane. Due to our continued success winning new opportunities to support the meeting our clients’ requirements, we are currently seeking an experienced Checker to join our team, providing leadership to successfully deliver designs for Mineral Processing projects. 

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Perform independent checking of SMP paper-space drawings and 3D models (structural steel, concrete, platework, piping and vendor interfaces) for interface alignment, accuracy, completeness, consistency and compliance to Sedgman workflows, drafting standards, specifications, specific project and client requirements, and applicable Australian or international codes. 
  • Review interfaces between structural, mechanical, piping and vendor packages, and identify inconsistencies, clashes, missing information and potential design risks across disciplines. 
  • Assess constructability, fabrication, installation and maintenance considerations. 
  • Review workshop detailing completeness, tolerances, access, lifting, sequencing and buildability. 
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of design systems and governance, and mentorship of Sedgman designers to increase knowledge and skills. 

What are we looking for? 

We are looking for  a highly focussed and self-motivated person with a strong background in Structural and Mechanical checking to oversee projects and work toward releasing designs.  

Qualifications: 

  • Associate Diploma in Engineering / Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent. 

Essential skills, knowledge and experience: 

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in design/consultancy/operational environment.  
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in shop detailing/management.  
  • Coal or Minerals industry experience – Mineral processing, materials handling and construction. 

Desired skills, knowledge and experience: 

  • International project and engineering design team collaboration. 
  • Offshore engineering design management. 
  • Fabrication, welding and protective coatings (paint) expertise highly regarded. 
  • Contract management experience highly regarded. 
  • Skills in AutoCAD, Advanced Steel, Plant 3D, Navisworks, Vault, MS Office suite.
