The Role

About Usual:

Usual was born from a simple observation: dominant stablecoins operate like centralized banks — they capture billions in revenue and don’t redistribute it. In parallel, most crypto tokenomics have failed to deliver long-term fairness, favoring insiders over users.

We’re here to change that.

Usual is the first stablecoin protocol that gives back ownership and value to its users. By turning users into stakeholders, we’re building a more equitable financial infrastructure — one where value flows back to the community that creates it.

In less than a year, we built and launched a complete stablecoin protocol from scratch, introducing USD0, a stablecoin backed by tokenized U.S. Treasuries, its yield-bearing counterpart USD0++, and a revenue-sharing governance token, $USUAL.

The protocol reached over $1.8B in TVL before stabilizing around $600M, entering a new phase of maturity — with a focus on transparency, resilience, and multi-currency expansion.

Usual Labs is the core team behind this evolution. We’re now extending the protocol’s foundation toward the vision of a DeFi Fintech: a transparent, community-owned financial infrastructure connecting stable assets, real yield, and everyday usability.

We’re a small, driven team of DeFi builders with a strong execution track record and a shared ambition to redefine how value circulates in crypto.

Joining Usual means working at the frontier of decentralized finance — owning your scope, shipping fast, and shaping the future of open, fair money.

Context:

At Usual, you'll be part of a talented team of around 10 engineers, including our CTO, 5 smart contract developers, and 3 dApp developers. Our protocol is live, and we're gearing up for the release of V2 in the coming weeks. This next phase will build on our current version, focusing on enhancing product suite, security, and user experience.

Mission:

As a Senior Smart Contract Developer at Usual, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and deploying smart contracts that form the backbone of our protocol. Your work will directly impact the security, efficiency, and scalability of our platform, ensuring it meets the highest standards of performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Smart Contract Development: Design, develop, and deploy smart contracts using Solidity to implement the core functionalities of the Usual protocol.
  • Code Review and Testing: Conduct thorough code reviews, write unit tests, and collaborate with the QA team to ensure the robustness and security of the smart contracts.
  • Protocol Enhancement: Work closely with the product and tech teams to identify areas for improvement and implement new features that align with the protocol’s roadmap.
  • Security Best Practices: Implement and advocate for best practices in smart contract development to minimize vulnerabilities and enhance protocol security.
  • Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation for smart contract functionality, deployment processes, and security considerations.
  • Collaboration: Engage with cross-functional teams, including dApp developers, product managers, and external auditors, to ensure seamless integration and delivery of smart contract components.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive Solidity Experience: 4+ years of experience in smart contract development with a strong portfolio of deployed contracts.
  • Blockchain Expertise: Deep understanding of blockchain technology, particularly Ethereum and its ecosystem.
  • Security Focus: Proven experience in writing secure smart contracts, understanding common vulnerabilities, and applying best practices to mitigate risks.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Team Collaboration: Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a track record of working effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Agile Methodologies: Familiarity with agile development processes and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Successful V2 Launch: Ensure the timely and secure deployment of V1, meeting all specified requirements and quality standards.
  • High-Quality Code: Deliver clean, efficient, and well-documented smart contract code that meets the highest standards of security and performance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the protocol by implementing new features and optimizing existing ones.
  • Effective Collaboration: Foster a collaborative environment that promotes knowledge sharing and continuous learning among team members.

Why Join Usual?

  • Join one of the fastest-growing protocols in DeFi.
  • Build the financial primitives of tomorrow with a small, elite team.
  • Work on cutting-edge DeFi projects that have a real impact.
  • No red tape, no middle layers—you ship.
  • Competitive salary and token options
